I'm sure you've all heard the rumors about the new $20 bills... Some claim that they explode when microwaved, and the conspiracists suspect that it's due to microchips the government has secretly embedded in paper money to... track it.
So? I don't have any of these new $20 bills. Someone go nuke theirs and tell me what happens. I'm curious.

quote: Nope. Mine didn't, and I have a super-powered oven-microwave. It's just really, really hot.
You nuked a new bill or an old one? quote: I've fried a pop-tart before. Does that count?
Yes, spud, that's very helpful. I'd be lost without your input. quote: Is it one of those tye-dye looking $20s, or just one of the newer style ones? How long? I'm really anxious to try this.
I don't know. The ones in the picture don't look tie-dyed. I nuked mine for 30 seconds with no results. I'm still waiting to hear how long Sunset nuked hers before it caught fire.

When I was five, I wasn't sure if you could put plastic wrap or tin foil in the microwave, so I tried both. A lightning bolt came out of the side or something. It was sweet. Still have the microwave. It still works. quote: Destroying money is a federal offense, because you take $20 out of the nation's budget every time you nuke Andrew Jackson. The American government has to keep track of what bills we have.
Thirty-three percent of America's money goes unreported/unclaimed every year. $20 won't make a difference in the long run. Is it one of those tye-dye looking $20s, or just one of the newer style ones? How long? I'm really anxious to try this.

Psst, it wasn't my $20, so let's keep this on the hush-hush.
But I put a bowl of soup in once, and it exploded. Go figure.

I did it, I nuked an old bill. For ten seconds and then for twenty more. It barely even got warm, Sunset, it definately didn't catch fire. How long did you nuke yours?

No, I don't think it's supposed to start on fire at all. I think that means it exploded. I don't know. What is money made of, cotton? Try nuking some plain cotton; I don't think it'll catch.

Did it make a popping noise of any kind? Did it burn in the middle of the bill, or on the outside edges? Ooh, I know. Scan the bill so I can see it.

Yes... Spud, it was pretty nasty. puffin, oh I know. I am the best of the best. That's what I do when I am bored and no one is home. But, seriously, no one do it. If you want a bill to be on fire go ahead... and it really is a stench. -Sunset

The new twenties always stink like woah. I imagine warming them up would make it worse.

Nah, they don't blow up. (If it did I would be dead by now) Just you know... on the extra crispy side. And it smelled... I can still smell it even though I'm upstairs. Stores will still take it. And what does it hurt to lose one bill? People lose bills all the time. Oh well. It's not like I'll buy anything with it. I'll keep it and show it to my kids of what not to do in their spare time. -Sunset

As long as more than half of it is intact, it's not counted as destroyed.

I don't imagine it would destroy the bill. I'm picturing something like a cigarette burn or smaller. Come on, someone be a rebel. Do it. ... Okay, this is the picture on InfoWars.com : This is supposedly what the bills looked like after being nuked. What do you think? Do they qualify as "destroyed"? I mean, people accept twenties with writing on them all the time. Would they take them with scorch marks? C'mon, who's parents are loaded? Somebody nuke a twenty. Then, if it does blow up, try taking it to the bank and see if they accept it with burn marks on it. Ooh, I'm even more curious now.
