Instead of having about 20 threads or blogs, I thought I'd create one and put information about what to do on this site.
First and foremost are, obviously, the boards. I recommend reading around a bit before you post as we on the boards would prefer the use of more standard English than any form of netspeak. (If you say you can't spell or if English is not your first language, than we don't care as much. We give you props for trying). Anyways, read the posts, then comment back at will.
Secondly is the
Just-1-Click or J1C for short. You can click multiple times at once if you have a touchpad, and I advise you to click. It's an easy way to give a (usually) well-deserving organization money and I recommend that you remember to click.
Third is the
My Cause Is... section or MCI... for short. There you can find like-minded people who believe what you do or create causes for things you are passionate about. Before you create one, though, I highly recommend you browse causes as there are about five causes for abortion alone, and more than that for animal rights. If you have a cause in mind, MCI... probably already has it.
Fourth is the
project database. In this database are a variety of projects created mostly by youth that want to solve issues or volunteer or do things like cleaning up their local park or organizing a walk. It's a great way to volunteer as well as get others helping you with your cause.
Fifth is, as you've probably already noticed, your
profile. In your profile you can add causes to show people what you're interested in, add information about you (remember not to add too much as anyone can get a YN account and look in your profile), write blog entries about things that are bugging you or things you want the YouthNOISE community to know, and submit articles.
On that subject, here's the lowdown on
articles. Articles are normally written by youth and found throughout the website, in places on either the
homepage or in one of the Cause Channels located on the right side of the homepage. Generally, articles are more formal than blog entries (unless you write
really formal blog entries) and about things that are currently affecting not only youth, but also the world as a whole. In order to submit an article, click on the article submission tool in your profile.
Finally, there is the
debate section. Essentially, in my opinion, the debate section is like a bastardized version of the boards where you have to submit suggestions for topics instead of automatically being able to post them and where you can't see new posts unless you come on every few hours. Some people prefer the debate section, but as I think it's superfluous to the boards and like the freedom of being able to read and quote on the boards, I am not a fan. Don't let that deter you, though. Everyone's entitled to their opinion and I'm just very outspoken about mine.
Anyways, that's a rough low-down on the site. If you have any questions or comments, please feel free to ask via the boards or NOISEmail any of us who seem to know. (To NOISEmail, search the person's name in the search bar and press the button closest to the search bar. When you find the person, there will be an envelope next to their name. Click the envelope).
Oh, and don't forget to check out the
Rules of Play located at the top of the boards.
