the psone game Legend of Mana... once you start, you really can't stop, its engrossing! i really got into it, i've played more than 50 hours on it (over a few weeks this summer)
I would have to say that Resdient Evil for the gamecube. But how can we forget the original NBA JAM and Wrestlemania the Arcade Game? But once metroid prime comes out, I am sure that will replace resident evil.
There's a great computer game called Riven. You are basically just dumped in a world (called Riven) to explore. All you know is you are looking for a girl called Catherine. You move around the environment, you can pick objects up, books, diaries that tell you more, clues and (very complicated) codes are everywhere and it's up to you to unravel them and work out what the hell's going on. The environment of the game is really complete, it's made up of five islands which you discover as you explore, some have people and complete societies on them… it's a really challenging, in-depth, detailed, well-constructed, complicated (you can't get anywhere without keeping a notebook of everything you see) mysterious, and even creepy game. There's different scenarios depending on what you do… It actually feels like a real adventure to play and I found myself getting really involved, so much so I was getting totally nervous when I was exploring somewhere that I knew was somebody's private study, or when I was spotted by somebody. It's definitely the best game I've ever played.
