Today is my second day at a university and eveything is so NEW to me. Consequently, I also met new people, new faces, new personalities and new characters. Since the university is far from home, I had to stay at a boarding house with twenty other new people. So at first, I was quiet and seldom comment about stuff which made me a bit uncomfortable... coz that wasn't the real me. But I had to find my place first. I had to know who they are before I reveal myself to them. I had to be "not me" for a while... But now that they're quite fond of me already, I start to act like myself again bit by bit and stick to those whom I think fits my character. So I guess sometimes, you have to act differently or "fake"... just don't get too used to being "not you". Peace

I think everyone acts. It's just how many layers you add on that makes you fake. For example, imagine just one of those popular girls in their house. They'd probably do things much differently when alone. They don't have to always be bright and cheery, or evil and mean, depending. And they actually have gross bowel movements like the rest of us do(sorry, but it seems to me like everyone now a days acts like you don't need to fart or have mad explosive diareahha(sp?) every once in awhile). So, at home, you could be without make up, in grungy clothes, and crapping. At school, you would be all smiles with designer clothes on and the cool new lip gloss that smells like cherry with your cute pink fluffy pen. In school you would flirt recklessly in front of the boys. At home, where you parents are having a get together with other adults, you would act like suuuuuuch an angel and offer to wash the dishes you would've killed to avoid. Now when you really really get fake is when you go to school and put on the new lip gloss with designers clothes when you really only wanna where some overalls because they're way more comfy and your face starts hurting because you're expected to smile all the time and you feel like you're going to explode because no one really understands. O__O And I wrote waaaaay toooo much. XD Hope you understood.

Most people adapt to fit their surroundings: Its called using common sense. You act differently at a party then you do at school (hopefully), don't you? If people constantly acted the same way we would probably have total lawless anarchy. I don't think people should be dishonest or fake their way through life, but some restraint is both normal and necessary for a stable society.

It's better to be yourself because then your friends can know the real you and you would be able to tell them anything and everything because you wont feel weird. It isn't cool to keep things from your friends and not showing them the real you is the exact same thing as not shutting them out.

Believe it or not, I think being yourself is esaier said then done. I Haven't been my self for a while now, because of the people I hang out with. It's hard to get strait A's and be a good student when all your friends want to skip class and stuff like that. If I acted the way I was, I wouldnt many friends. But to answer your question, I think if u can it's better to be your self. **Nicoley

I don't really think a person can be someone else..

For a while, at the beginning of the year, i didn't feel like i was myself, like i wasn't being true to my friends. So me and about four other of my best friends go together and started a group of people of all ages. It has been one of the greatest things that has happened to me, i've really gotten a chance to be my-self and to find out who i am. I think it is very important to be yourself around all the people you care about, or else you're just acting.

Im not fake. My friends know who i am and what im about. But sometimes i don't tell them EVERYTHING personal. SO i guess that can be fake or w/e. But people who are fake will get a reality slap cuz people will find out. And you wont like how they react to it.

Yea you should always be yourself. I'm just a freakish freshman who is really involved in Youth in Government and Model UN. My friends hate governmental stuff but I don't care. They also didn't like the fact that since we are skater/punk that I made central spirit. I like to show some school spirit since I play sports at the school. People have made fun of me my whole life for being smart and acting "nerdy", and now for the way I dress. I like who I am and don't care at all what others think.

I don't care what most people think of me, I just like being myself. Anyone who I want to be friends with will like me for who I am, not for who they are.

It's definitely better to be yourself. If you're trying to be someone you're not, you always have to wonder if you're doing or saying the right thing. If you just be yourself, you know that whatever you do or say is right because it's you!

i think that being yourself is better than trying to be someone your not. i had a friend that was trying to fit in with others just so a boy will notice her and she lost alot of good friends that way. people need to know that trying to be like someone else is putting your own self down and the main people you trying to impress will try to make you do things you won't do and you will be the one getting in trouble for it. you need to be yourself than being trying to be someone else.

Be yourself!!!!!!!!!!! NEVER let anyone tell you different and NEVER let anyone change who you are. If you act you will not feel as good as you would be feeling if you were being yourself.
