Here's a little rant I penned a while ago, it provides some background to what I have say in this post...

I don't believe that money is the root of all evil. I suppose some good things are accomplished with it. I am, however, convinced that money is indeed the root of all frustration.

Think about it, (almost) everything we do, or wish to do, has to be measured against our financial status. If you would like to learn guitar, but are not able to acquire the instrument, it (needless to say) severely limits one's chance to become a guitarist. Even more basic, an activity that requires little else than yourself. Karate or dance for instance. You (basically) need nothing else besides your body and yet many who wish to pursue these things are unable because of instruction fees. I could go on with these scenarios limitlessly.

Unfortunately, our world is bound by the stuff (flimsy green paper which, in itself, is totally worthless) and there is little we can do about it. Of course, there's always the option of inciting a massive revolution which does away with the world's financial institutions and our new currency would be rice...eh...but I digress.

It's a vicious cycle; you don't have enough money to do the things you would like to do. So you get a job, maybe two. Now you have the money, but you don't have the time to do the things that prompted you to get the job(s) in the first place. In the end, we all become slaves to money, in some form or another. I think we need to move away from it all...the question, however, is how?

-------------------------------------------------

Now, my actual reason for posting. I'm in need of help. I want to do so much. To mention a few of my most immediate pursuits: foreign exchange for a year, semester, or summer; Landmark Volunteers program or the equivalent; Presidential classroom or the equivalent.
The problem in all of these things, however, is their cost. Foreign exchange is anywhere from $5000-$9000, Landmark is $900, PC is in the low thousands. I have a lot of ambition, and I've tried raising money before. It just doesn't seem to bear fruit. I'm not content to just give up though. I will these things. I just need the means. I'm asking all of you for suggestions as to how I might find cost friendly programs, suggestions for fundraising and any other advice. Anything would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks,
Ian

Fundraising ideas:

1) Sponsored Whatever (something you're good at)

2) Throw a fundraising party. My uncle did that before he climbed Mount Kilamanjaro. Admittedly, though, that was for charity.

3) Get a job.

4) Wash cars. They do that in the teen movie 'Bring it On' and it works a treat. Admittedly in that film they're all hot girls. And they're wearing bikinis. And it's instrumental to the plot of the movie that they succeed. Still, worth a try, hey.

5) Uhmmm…… Talk to your school, see if they can help you out with ideas. I've been involved in fundraising etc. before but not at the level you're talking about, and it's always been for charity which means people are more willing to give money.

G'luck
