I think we are beginning to stray into the realm of the geek. One can be a nerd and a geek, but being a nerd does not automatically make one a geek and vice versa.
Nerds = overachiever, ultra-intelligent, book smart Geeks = love of trivia and fictional universes
Of course, it's more nuanced than that, but it's hard to describe unless you are one or the other (or both).
A good example of a geek is something who knows about and lectures on the difference between a nerd and a geek. A good example of a nerd is someone who looks up the etymology of both words and criticizes me on not defining them better.
