honestly i think jesus what just some guy trying to make the world a better place...didnt work but hey, good try...and the bible is nothing to me but a bunch of crap...no offence to anyone im not bashing anything im just statin my veiw...and as for god...hes just some sort of spirit thingy thats wants you to live the way YOU want to live...i believe he doesnt want you to pray all the time and 'worship' and live by the bible...who ever the ppl r that wrote the bible were smokin somethin heavy cuz i dont believe a thing in it other than the ppl lived at one time and ther is a god...but thats it...god wants you to be you..sure, dont kill or steal unless its absolutly nessisary (hey, if someones going to kill you or if your starving what r u supost to do?)...and if you wanna be gay, be gay...if you wanna be a prostite, be one....drug user, do it...what ever you want as long as you think your doing it for the good of you or the world...again, no offence to anyone...im not bashing(i keep sayin this cuz ppl tend to think im bashing but im not) and ill add...if you wanna be extremely religious and live by the bible and 'worship' and pray constantly...that fits into my view, cuz if it makes you happy and u think its right, do it.
heres what i have to say! the bible is a bunch of stories maybe not made up but passed down from generation to generation. im absolutely convinced that through the years stories were made up or things were added on. i believe that jesus was at one time alive, yet i also believe that he is not god. i think that he might have been a prophet or maybe just a regular guy who was trying to make the world a better place. id also like to add that my friends aunt is a prostitute or at least she was. she also belonged to the christian church. she has a little girl who is the sweetest thing. one day she called and told us that the church had told her that her and her daughter cant come back to the church until she finds a better job. they kicked her daughter out of the catholic school as well. what kind of church is that, that doesnt even help people that need help? jesus's best friend was marie magdalin who was a prostitute, he loved her because she was a good woman and needed help as well. i ask you what has happened to the "cristian" religeon? ~erin~
Jesus may have existed, but as a regular normal man. By the way, is it so hard to believe that people who believed in God just made it up? I mean the greeks did it, should we go and make a religion based on the olympian Gods? It's human nature to create things out of ideas b/c we all need something to believe in and have faith in. It doesn't necessarily mean they're true.
HOW DO I KNOW THAT THE GOD WHO SAYS HE EXISTS REALLY DOES EXIST? See previous statement.
A flaw with your reasoning about Austrailia, JoeyDauban. I believe that Austrailia exists because it makes sense for a continent to exist where it does. I does not make any sense that a God actually exists who can do absolutely everything, because then I have to believe in a spiritual level of things and the idea that certain things exist that do not exist, and that the vast majority of all scientific proof ever is wrong, etc.
Indeed they are valid points and your "proof" is non-existant. There are 1.8 Billion Chistians according to recent statistics. 1 billion Catholic and 800 million Protestant. Again, an appeal to numbers proves nothing. 6 billion people could tell you your wrong but I have little doubt you would continue to preach your righteousness. Word of God being endorsed by God is circular reasoning. It's like saying what I say is true because I say it's true. The conclusion is contained in the premise, thus begging the question, a logical fallacy. What mordern-day miracles? What proof? There is no reason to believe anyone without proof. Their bias by being part of the group out to prove something even makes their word worth less in a factual debate. I doubt you would trust the government or military telling you what the military is really doing because of your inclination to beleive the worst about them and to not trust what they say based on their positions and what they stand to gain from your compliance and belief. I'd rather not be part of a club. Clubs are like the Skulls & Bones, the Bohemian Grove people, The Freemasons and the Illuminati your preach against. These are groups with dogmas, rituals, and beliefs. Government is a group, elitism is a club sport. More things I'd rather not be a part of. Cults, societies, clans, parties, ideals, all corruption of just having personal belief, bliss and faith in yourself. If reliigon is valid so be it, but don't corrupt it by building a treehouse and claiming superiority and divine right.
Joey, as of this year, there are approximately 2 billion Christians on this earth. I'm pretty sure that's about one in three people (pretty sure, but not exactly) So just because there are 2 billion Christians (not necessarily devout either) it must be so? Ok, small scale comparison:
Ya know those Tootsie Pops? There's this rumor about them that if you find a wrapper with an Indian shooting the star, you can go to a stor and get another tootsie pop free. Many many many people believe this, it was something I was told my parents, and they were told by theirs. Still, a while back, we found out it wasn't true. Even though so many people believed it, it wasn't true.
I know Austrailia exists, because I know people, credible people, who've been there. But, if someone walked up to me and said "Kim, I'm from Jomamamamaland" I wouldn't just blindly believe them. I'd ask to see pictures, a map, obviously. (Okay, I'd ask when was the last time they did drugs too, but...)
Joey your post did nothing in terms of credibility.
Since when have Christians ever said they were going to "kill" you?
Well, considering God said the Word of God is in fact the Word of God, I would be pretty foolish to not accept it as truth; you know, since God Himself said it was the WORD of God.
Someone give me an estimate here as to how many Christians there are on the planet...
30 million?
30 billion?
2 trillion?
Whatever the number, there are many devout Christians who claim the Bible as the Word of God. There are many, many devout Christians who consider the miracles and the divine teachings to be real.
Of all the testimonies, the modern-day miracles, there still isn't any proof?
Like I said, Christianity is sort of a club. Membership is available to all people, beit black, white, woman or man, poor or rich.
The previous posts on this forum have obviously been from non-members.
Would you believe an Australian if he told you Australia is a continent on the other side of the world?
Though you haven't seen it, but you heard from the guy who says he's from there, would you still believe him?
Or would you say "where's your proof" that Australia exists?
I haven't seen God, but I know He's there. How so?
Joey, where do you get your information from? Have you been brainwashed into believing it? Watching too many TV evangelist shows? Internet sites? Your own head? My my, I think someone suffers from an overactive imagination. Instead of gloomy thoughts of death and the Holy Ghost, think of imaginary friends and tea parties. Honestly.
Do you really believe that the people of the world will fall into a conforming trap? Oh ****, nevermind, I just realized what I was saying. Yeah, all the religious people will probably fall in, but me, I'll die of my own accord, thanks.
And if I had to place my bets on who's dominating the world, it wouldn't be Europe.
Joey, again, it is rather laughable to use the Bible as complete proof that Jesus did everything written there. I mean, are there any other sources?
Yes, I agree, "club" should be replaced with "cult"...so similar, aren't they? Christianity is a club/cult that tries to get absolutely everyone not in the club/cult into it. Or kill them. Your either with them, or they kill you. Count me out.
I wonder if Christianity could be considered a mental disorder. Ya know, they "see" all these things, "hear" the word of God. Ya know, if ya didn't call him God, you would probably be institutionalized for that.
Part of why the accounts of Jesus are weird and fuzzy and contradict each other is that Jesus was actually a relatively common Jewish name, like John or Jacob, up until Christianity became really popular, at which point the name obviously possesed an entirely different meaning.
it seems that everytime i bring up something from the past and like "dwell" on it. someone tells me not to dwell on teh past its the past it went by it already been lived.
answer me this if "jesus" lived 2000 some odd around there years ago. and he did all the so called miricales and healing or whatever junk. Thats all in the past..
why are we all dwelling on teh past. and the fact that i still don't see how anyone knows he really existed. no one today has seen him in teh flesh. and i know about all that junk that the found stuff he touched. you can pick up nething and say someone touched it.
think about it it makes sense.... dwelling on the past... but we are always being told not to do that. MAKE UP YOUR MINDS!!
Hey Joey, where is your proof the Jesus Christ did all of the miraculous deeds?
Please don't say the Bible, because I don't believe in that.
As for Christianity being a "club," I'd say it's more of a cult than anything:
cult Pronunciation Key (klt) n.
A religion or religious sect generally considered to be extremist or false, with its followers often living in an unconventional manner under the guidance of an authoritarian, charismatic leader. The followers of such a religion or sect. A system or community of religious worship and ritual. The formal means of expressing religious reverence; religious ceremony and ritual. A usually nonscientific method or regimen claimed by its originator to have exclusive or exceptional power in curing a particular disease.
Obsessive, especially faddish, devotion to or veneration for a person, principle, or thing. The object of such devotion. An exclusive group of persons sharing an esoteric, usually artistic or intellectual interest.
Hey, kind of sounds like Christianity to me
quote:
"The people who aren't "members" have obviously not seen the evidence and therefore not speak with authority on the matter."
I'm not a "member", though I used to be. I can thank the church for helping me to see how gullible people seem to be; they believe everything told to them by the church. So voila! I converted to Atheism.
My point is that if you're a Christian, you'll believe in the Bible and the miracles Jesus supposedly performed. And yes, I'm sure you've felt the "Holy Spirit" because it's in your head. But hey, I could be wrong, but that's my opinion. Christians in general are good people, so I have no qualms with the religion itself, but that doesn't mean I have to follow it.
