2002 is almost over, but before we leap into the New Year, YouthNOISE wants to know what REALLY impacted you over the last 365 days?

  • Did you see an awesome random act of kindness?
  • Did a Celeb impress?
  • Was there something in the news this year that really affected you?
  • Did you do anything NOISEworthy this year? (Come on, toot your own horn!)
Post your thoughts, right here, right now!

Confused I guess I would have to say the fact that I have grown physically, mentally, and spiritually. I know more about what's goin' on in this world and how evil some people can be.Hopefully, this year will be my best yet............... daniel07 Smile

I like this topic. I did a TON of learning this year. TONS. I am overwhelmed by what I have acquired in one year. Really, it's quite awesome.

Well I've learned about death. I'd never "experienced" death till this year, when a teacher died. I learned how to deal with it (I hope). I've learned that I'm not immortal. With the 9-11 attacks and killing, war, and death, I have definitely seen how precious life is. I've learned to live carefully. I've learned that I don't like the institution of school. Love learning, hate school. I've learned about hard work this summer. I've learned that I am almost 17 years old and need to experience more.

I'm going to post my other learnings somewhere else, because it's too much for here.

But something definitely newsworthy is the war. It's coming. Bush sending troops to Iraq. Even if there could be a compromise, I think Bush would want it. This is our war, people. The war of our generation. We wish it wouldn't be, but we have it. Remember it for the next generations. We've been taught so much about the past, but unfortunately aren't ready to move past wars yet. So we need to remember and teach the next ones, until war can be deleted from the picture. Get ready.

OK, that took up a lot. Ya'll are probably thinking I'm a little odd. But this is me. And what's been news for me this year.

In retrospect, this year has been rather crazy for me.

I've grown up immensely, by teaching myself, and learning, and listening. Most of all, listening.

This year, I put back together my heart, making it possible for me to love and trust again. It was a slow process, filled with many doubts, but I survived.

Today is probably the biggest battle I will have for the year. On December 17th, 1998, when I was 11, I cut my arms for the first time. Since that day, I have led a life I am not particularly proud of. I've made several attempts to end my own life, each time getting more serious. Yet, today, as I woke up, I vowed to leave the past behind me, and end my cycle of self-destruction. I embrace my self, and put into exile what can physically hurt me.

Politically, nothing has inspired me. If anything, I have worried more for our world than anything else. I hope we can end this control game, end the wars that no one understands why we fight, rebel against conformity and control.

To summarize, in one phrase, This year, I learned to think.

What most impacted me was the possible war with Iraq, and the debate over homeland security and domestic spying; in other words, what I call the downward spiral of our nation into God knows what.

I'll second that.

Something NOISEworthy I did this year: I gathered signatures for a petition and went to the Los Angeles county board of supervisors to protest the addition of streetlamps on our tiny little cul-de-sac... and I won! Here's some more info: topic post about streetlamps It's the first time I really took a stand against a government! big grin

I just got done participating in the Constitutional Law Competition. My team placed second in district but we went to State (Oregon) as the wildcard team where we got fourth. (If anyone on here's from Lincoln, congratulations and good luck!) I learned a lot about the Constitution from the early drafting to how it is still an incredibly important document today. I also learned a ton about recent things that can be related to the Constitution (Judicial Review and all that). If anyone's thinking about doing it next year, I really recomend it, it was a lot of fun. big grin

just as surreal as previous years....... bourgeois oppress the proles once again, and the juggling act for control continues.....nothing new.
