Oh my gosh, The Stranger was a good book but it was so friigin depressing a couldn't stand it. It's one of those books that when you put it down its just like, "How rude!" and then you stay sad for a day or two. lol. But I am the kind of person who is deeply affected that way...

The Diary of an Emotional Idiot (can't remember the author's name) is hilarious. The Color Purple, by Alice Walker, is great, as is anything (especially short stories) by Kate Chopin. I liked The Heart is a Lonely Hunter (Carson McCullers), but most people don't. Almost anything by George Orwell is good; I really liked Down and Out in Paris and London, especially once I found out that Orwell lived in poverty for a year while writing it to make it realistic. I also liked The Book of Disquiet (written by one of Fernando Pessoa's many personalities), but it's prose and it's a bit hard to get through. Then again, I can read almost anything...I actually enjoyed Anna Karenina, even though many people assured me it was one of the most boring books ever written.

"Someone like You" by: Sarah Dressen is really good!

"Death To Be Not Proud" is good, it's sad though.

"The Women In The Wall" is interesting.

"Lilly's Crossing" is good, it's written from a child's veiw"

"Keeping The Moon" by: Sarah Dressen is good to anything from her is a good book

"Daddy's Little Girl" by: Mary Higgins Clark is good to. It's about a little girl who's sister was murdered. Anything from her is good to.

There's a lot more but that's all I could think of.

Tell me if you've read these:

***Siddhartha, by Herman Hesse - Story about Buddhist journey, very enlightening.

***Planet of Twilight, a star wars novel - Even though it takes place after the Star Wars movies, it is really good, if you like a great plot and great action this is for you, it's very interesting. Well written.

*Genesis, by Paul Anderson - Very interesting concept on what will happen to our species in the future.

***The Stranger (or l'etranger in French) , by Albert Camus - Ever felt like society is terrible sometimes? This story demonstrates it so concisely, in a story format about a murder. And it's easy to read.

*****Hork-Bajir Chronicles, by K.A. Applegate - Magnificently written, a suspenseful, sad and beautiful story. For everyone, it's incredible.

Roll Eyes

You can tell Napoleon said mein Kampf and The Prince just to sound cool, they are both boring and I would bet anything he didn't read them. I can respect your admiring them for being such a huge part of history, but come on, you didn't stay up late reading going "ooh, I wonder what Hitler's gonna say next!".

Sorry, they aint good reads!

'a time of angels' is my fave book becuz thats how i found my favorite author now, karen hesse. my other favorites are:

2. 'witness' also by karen hesse, very well written and interesting.

3. 'white oleander' by janet fitch. truly original and you can feel astrids pain. also see the movie. maybe more for girls.

4. 'stones in water' by donna jo napoli. a great author, different from other holocaust books.

5. 'speak' by laurie halse anderson. very blunt and true-to-life. i suggest this book more for girls too, its so awesome.

6. 'holes' by louis sachar. amazingly written. you have to remember every little detail to fit all the pieces together, but its worth it.

i noe it seems like i have a lot of favorites, but these are all great books, you have to read them. they certainly brought some entertainment into my life.

I like a lot of books. I really don't have a favorite. But one good book is Someone Like You, & i'm reading a book called Over The Moon (it's a weird title but the book has nothing to do with the Moon).

Have a nice day,

thank god... you ppl actually have good taste in books. love A Clockwork Orange... really really want to read 1984. I just finished Brave New World, it was ****in amazing. i obviously like all the ****ed-up future books ahah Smile

Contact by Carl Sagan is another good one. it's kinda futuristic, tho it was written as tho it could happen right now. and the mesages about humanity and faith and science and love are so amazing... it blew me away.

Handmaid's Tale is a good one... It's like the feminist 1984. And if anyone here has not read 1984, get on that! Orwell's other stuff is great as well.

Right now I'm reading Naked Lunch by William S. Burroughs. Pretty funny.

Books by Amelia At****er-Rhodes...and books about witchcraft, vampires, etc.

I thought the Crucible was a really good book. A lot of accusations on witchcraft...based on the Salem Witch Trials. Wink

From The Corner of His Eye by Dean Koontz and 1984 by George Orwell. Right now I'm reading David Copperfield by Charles Dickens; but this novel seems to be bigger than the Bible..

A Tree grows in Brooklyn is my favorite book. It's just beautifully cleanly written out, even though the things she writes about aren't clean, it's just wonderfully refreshing to read it and know the characters so well; even though I'm making it sound really freakin boring, it's not. I like Sissy best.

Lots of love,
Lynne
