I know there are a lot of topics on "jackasses" and things being said like "there are some seriously messed up people in this world." Etc, etc, you know the story.

What do you do with those total jackasses with no respect for people, so shallow their actions can be, and you can only shake your head and wonder why. I guess the only thing that I could think of is that the only thing that could be done is to just treat them with respect. Now you may ask yourself, "Why do these people deserve my respect?" Well frankly, they don't. But the thing is, everyone has done bad things in their life, and yet they still can be mean to others that are merely doing what they are doing. If you disrespect them, you are merely perpetuating the hatrid. But that's not what we want. We want it to end. So you can't insult them, because they'll insult you, and a vicious cycle will come. You can only hope that some of them will look back and say "Wow, look what I have been doing." Now not all of them will do this, but you can only hope for those who do. You can't be mean just to make the cycle continue. That brings you to where they are..They only way to end it is to be that light-at-the-end-of-the-tunnel figure. Not ideal, but better then some options.


If this has already been posted about, I probably would have replied to it when I found it sifting through these millions of posts, but I thought it was an important question that I have not gotten enough opinions on.

yea but what are you getting out of it... what's the point

there are some situations were being a bit mean might help (like the person who stalks you cause you were nice to them and you told them nicely to back off...) but in general it gets you nothing

Why be nice to people you don't like? They'll just hang around you more often. This is the Internet, you silly hippies; we can be as mean as we want and no one with half a brain will be offended.

A number of reasons. You don't like a lot of people? I personally don't think it's a problem with "niceness" so much as it is an issue of tolerating those you can't stand.

Me? Close to zero tolerance. I can be perfectly nice, sure, when I choose to be. I just don't choose to be nice very often because I can't tolerate very many people.

___I can't stand certain nice people. It's like, who do they think they are? Mother Teresa? I just want to smack them and scream into their face, "Get a freaking life!" over and over again they finally realize that letting people walk all over them doesn't do any good for anybody in the long run. Can't they see how phony and pathetic it is to just say what people want them to say all the time day in and day out? They're weak I tell you. Weak! People with backbones are too few and too far between. Things in the world may not run as quietly or as smoothly... but at least it'd be more honest if more people were jerks more often.
