I volunteer all the time. I wouldn't say I'm the most priviliged, but I'm well off. I volunteer probably about 10 hours a week and during the summer I plan a road trip that goes all around Florida doing 5 hour service projects each day. I'm super involved in Camp Fire USA and my council is focused on community service. I've helped out at our local homeless shelter and I clean our Adopt a Lake. I find community service one of the most important things you can do.

I was supposed to join BBBS (Big Brothers Big Sisters), but the person never replied back. Plus all of the meeting were out in like Southfield and Detroit and I really didn't want to be driving in unfamiliar places alone after dark. (I just stick to 8 mile and then Livernois...anything beyond that is foreign to me...) I kept bugging the lady to keep me alert to any meetings closer to my area, but I don't think they really have a high demand for "Bigs" in my city...

I volunteer at the hospital once a week. It's fun. I also tutored poor kids during the school year, and I taught computer applications to seniors. Yeah.
Just because nobody understands you, that doesn't mean you're artistic.

I took a sociology class and part of it included traveling to Chicago for 3 days and also exploring homelessness in my own area. As a result I have decided to cook once a week at the homeless teen crisis center. I talk with the kids and play games and feed them. What I did learn is that the teens don't like roast with potatoes and carrots. Instead they like the normal teen foods, pizza, hot dogs, tacos etc. I am also writing a book on the stories of these teens and donating my writings as an awareness program for our area and fund raiser for the center. I hope this doesn't sound selfish but I find it really gratifying that I have the chance to do something that hopefully makes a difference. I believe homeless teens are invisible to our societies and by writing this book maybe it will enlighten people to the problem.

i have helped tutor poor children during our community involvement in highschool. it was a very nice experience and it helped me review basic knowlege in helping kids with subjects like math and science and english and spelling. It really boost up my self-confidence and made me a good person as well. >>jam

I wrote a poem about being homeless but I can't find it. I was a street kid once because my parents kicked me out. Here in Australia, I blame it on Family service for turning a blind eye when I ask for help. They take to adult side but not us young people? To make this harder, I am deaf. It took me about 2 years before I get to live under a roof with security and support of a foster family. I think it about time someone did something about it, not just Australia but all over the world. I think there should be a place where they can faciliate the young people in trouble, being able to provide counselling services, temporary financial support and a temporary home.

I am not the most fortunate or rich person in the world but it doesnt meant that i dont have things to be thankful about...I have a family.a roof over my head.food.and nice clothes...although everyone in your town might have all of the above and more their are millions of children around the world who dont have all of this that we often take for granted...I dont necessarily have tons of clothes but i have alot and i dont wear a quarter of them..so for the holidays i took mi clothes that i didnt wear to the salvation army...that way children can have what they might not...their are tons of other ways to help...food drives...or toy drives...I am in the business club in my school where I live and we are currently collecting money for kids who may not have enough money for toys...this way everyone can be happy...Happy Holidays to all!!!
