Check this out-
A coalition of young American leaders have come together to launch the new independent political Party Y, dedicated to meeting the needs of the under-30 population. Rather than a traditional ‘third party,’ this organization is a 21st century web and media-based "virtual party" run entirely by people under 30, designed to link up young voters with equally young political candidates around the country. Since 1972, youth voting has dropped from 50% to 32% (Center for Voting and Democracy), despite concerted efforts to reverse this trend. Over 30 million voters under the age of 30 chose not to participate in the 2000 presidential election, and many more did not cast their ballot in the 2002 midterm election. Add this to the 35 million "Gen Y’ers" presently reaching voting age, and we are left with the largest unclaimed block of voters in the country. Party Y intends to tap into this massive voting block of over 65 million people by supplying them with facts and the best young leaders America has to offer. Party Y will recruit members and candidates through a cross-country political road show commencing in 2003 and running up to the presidential election in November 2004. The road show will be designed as an "American Idol" type of reality TV program, seeking charismatic young political candidates around the country to run for Congress. Ten candidates from across the nation will receive prize money and media resources to run their own congressional campaigns until Election Day - with the TV show tracking their progress along the way. It's not revolutionary, but it's radical.
I like it.

I ran for school board a year after I graduated, lost in a three-way race, but am planning to run again, this time for state representative -- that is, of course, if I can raise $2,000 by July and have enough support. joeydauben@hotmail.com http://www.joeydauben.comThere's already a party for the under-30 crowd: the Libertarians. Do you realize what would happen if the mass media gave the LP exposure day in and day out? We'd have a Constitutional republic again -- and besides, everyone under 30 wants one of those Vote LP! http://www.lp.org
