It's hard to explain, but I just can't see the reasoning behind the atheist argument.
This man Jesus, who walked and talked with everyday people in Israel claimed He was God.
So is the guy lying?
Is He crazy?
We can argue all the days of the year about Jesus being God, but notice many, maaaany secular "scholars" believe there was a man named Jesus; the Israeli people didn't just "dream" him up - or did they?
So the stories of the miracles and the healings and the conversions are just phony, made-up stories?
The world's best-selling book is full of lies in other words?
I just don't understand.
A man claiming to be the Son of God lived 2,000 years ago, supposedly did all these miraculous things (according to the writings of the time period), has the world's largest faith named after his last name ...yet somehow never existed or does exist?
The Bible speaks of Jesus living in Israel ...remember, texts thousands of years old referred to Israel as Israel.
Israel wasn't even a COUNTRY until 1947.
I'm just having a hard time believing the atheists' arguments; not meaning to bash anyone's beliefs here, but I just don't see how you can explain it.
Jesus either lived and was a lunatic or the world's biggest liar or He is in fact God --- or the man didn't live at all and that men from generation to generation have been lying to us all this time.
I don't think the real question is whether Jesus exists.. I believe that Jesus existed because there's some historic information that tells us that he DID exist.. just like we know Sophocles, and Plato, and Aristotle existed. Jesus was simply a philosopher that claimed that a god existed that loved/loves everyone infinitely, which is why he became so popular among the uneducated population.
As for God existing.. I personally believe he/she/it never did and never will. I'm Atheist, and my beliefs lean more toward evolution than creationism, because it seems more logical. Until someone can provide proof that god exists, nothing can change my mind.
What don't you people understand???? God IS real! There's a book called the BIBLE. You might wanna read it some day. Any questions you hve can and will be answered in the BIBLE. If you have a problem with that, GET A LIFE! Email me! Cuss me out! But as of right now, you can't disprove my theory. Now can you? If you attempt to, may you burn in h e double hocky sticks!!!
there is a god i promise to all of you. explain how we got here then if you think there is no god. god exist in are hearts, mines, and thoughts. And everyday he helps you without you even knowing it. The bible isnt a fake. Its his words or wisdom and guidness. You might not be able to see but he is there. And what i tell everyone that doesnt believe: what will you say when you are at the gates of heaven will you say i am sorry i didnt believe which would be to late to say your soul would spend the rest of etrinty in hell burning and burning. While people who believe walk on streets of gold i love god and you should to
Sure, Jesus was a swell guy and all, but how do you know everything that is writtin is truth? Huh, buddy. Sure he may have worked with lepers and various other charitable activities, but what happened to the missing twenty years of his life. That best selling novel of yours left out quite a bit. Makes you think, perhaps Jesus was a mischief making teen like the most of us. Perhaps he even ::gasps:: sinned. It's not like you can say you actually knew the guy, and you frequented keggers togethor. Or that you have unquestionable evidence that he was the picture of perfection.
Quote: I can't speak for everyone, but few atheists I've met have claimed Jesus didn't exist. The points you make don't really provide a counter to the big argument: There is no real evidence for God.
As an atheist, that's exactly my opinion and exactly what I've been trying to say.

(Here's an interesting proposition: Maybe "God" did exist 2000 years ago, but has since lost interest in us and gone on to something else...)
Wonderousbob: actually, many people think that there is no true reality. Some think that it is all subjective to each person...what is true to one person might not be true to another. Others follow the philosophy of existentialism. This says that there is no point or meaning to life, or that we can never know if there is. Descartes, who said "I think therefore I am" thought that we can never know if anybody else really exists. We only know that we exist b/c we think...but for all we know maybe our minds have just created this world around us...maybe all of our friends, teachers, etc. are just figments of our imagination. I don't agree with anything listed above...I am, like you, a Christian...but I just wanted to give you the info!
I can't prove that that the christian view of God is correct, but it is quite easy to show that atheism is wrong. Atheism says there is no God. Acording to the dictionary God is defined as " The supreme reality" Now, who would argue that nothing is absolutely real? So, God - at least in the general sense- ,The ultimate Infinity, must exist.
I don't know what dictionary you're referring to, but dictionary.com defines God this way:
God A being conceived as the perfect, omnipotent, omniscient originator and ruler of the universe, the principal object of faith and worship in monotheistic religions. The force, effect, or a manifestation or aspect of this being. A being of supernatural powers or attributes, believed in and worshiped by a people, especially a male deity thought to control some part of nature or reality. An image of a supernatural being; an idol. One that is worshiped, idealized, or followed: Money was their god.
Nowhere in this definition do I see "the Supreme Reality," and I take issue with that definition anyway. How can something that can't be proved to exist be called reality? Of course I believe in reality - "a series of electrical impulses interpreted by your brain" - there is no way I have ever seen evidence of God as something real.
Rockergrl: I was addressing Buffy in my post... and addressing her view on the world...which is not atheism. Please notice I said "some" people. What I said about people accepting a view that has no evidence after demanding evidence forr Christianity does not pertain to atheists.
When you said "some people" I didn't know whether you were referring to atheists or not. Thanks for explaining.

Quote: With that said, I’ll continue. I think that it is funny that many people who demand proof of Christianity will ignore the evidence placed before them, and then accept a view on life on which there is no evidence.
And yet, throughout this whole argument, no Christian has provided any "evidence" that can prove the existence of God. What evidence has been placed before any of us, except that "God is God because He says He's God." As for accepting a view on life for which there is no evidence ... I am an atheist. That is my view on life. Why do I need any evidence to believe that something (God) does NOT exist? There's no need for evidence when you believe in nothing. I will believe in God when I see evidence that he DOES exist. It's like a person being innocent until proven guilty. The guilt does NOT exist until it has been proven. Similarly, God does NOT exist until his existence is proven. Those who believe in God are the ones who must provide ME with evidence before they can convert me.
First of all, you can not say that you are not “bashing” my religion. Maybe the intent to offend is not there, but you must be careful with your diction in order to make sure that the result of “bashing” is not produced. I accept that you do not mean to be offensive or bash Christianity…but you must look at how you phrase things. (For example, calling the Bible a “bunch of crap”, and suggesting that the writers of the Bible must have been drug users to write what they did) If I used the same severity of words to describe another religion, say Wicca or Islam, there is no doubt in my mind that you would understand if somebody was offended. It’s true that some people are offended by anything and everything, but I think I am being sensible here. I just ask that you be a bit more careful with how you phrase things. I believe this is a reasonable request.
With that said, I’ll continue. I think that it is funny that many people who demand proof of Christianity will ignore the evidence placed before them, and then accept a view on life on which there is no evidence. Yes, it would be nice if I could structure my religion to adapt it to whatever I wanted it to…but then that would mean that there are no universal truths or laws, which I disagree with. One last thing…about your belief that God does not want worship or prayer. Here’s the thing: If God spent the time and care to create the entire world…every single human…would he really not want us to acknowledge Him? To honor Him? This is what worship is. How wonderful it is that God wants a relationship with us! This is what prayer is.
