I consider the HP series possibly the greatest series that has ever graced the pages of literature. It is so well-written and thought out and the characters are very complex. It's not hard to read and I believe this is why so many people disregard this masterpiece of literature.

Im Catholic, yet I am a huge Harry Potter fan. I believe all those people who say its evil and teaches witchcraft and lots of crazy stuff, should READ the books, and they might see that what they're saying is WRONG. Since when has fighting evil (Voldy) been wrong? And if you have read them you will agree with me that JKR has given us several good messages and the power of friendship, ¨the last enemy that shall be destroyed is death¨, love, and much more...

my favourite Harry Potter book is definitely Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows.

I LOVE the HP books! but the first one is sooo boring! But I don't understand why some people say it's bad for you to read the book! It's not about "bad" witchcraft! It's kinda like an adventure book!

I can completely understand it (and respect it) when people say they are uncomfortable reading the Harry Potter books. But when they say that it's evil and all that, no offense to anyone, but I find it rather laughable because it's like saying anything with magic in it is evil. Even if there are occult/wiccan parallels in it, do you think that makes a difference to a child? To them, Harry potter books are fantasy books. Good Lord. If Harry Potter is evil because it has magic and wiccan practices, we might as well remove almost all of the fairy tales in the world as well!

maybe the reason why her facts (in the books whatever) is so "correct" is probably she did some research?? isn't that what almost every author does?

The Editor

The connection between Rowlings books and real occult facts is very real. Even occultists themselves see it. At www.ParanormalAtoZ.com rowling is listed with " A compendium of the Paranormal, occult, unusual, and the Supernatural.

While Rowling was doing a radio show in England once a guy called in and said that he was a wizzard. He told her that the reason that he loved her books so much was because that they so closely resembled the witchcraft that he was practicing. And his daughter who had been christian decided to get into wicca after reading the books because it(the witchcraft) was so cool.

I have to go so i don't have anymore time for this right now but if you get a chance go and read Harry Potter and the Bible by Richard Abanes .

*sighs and chuckles*

You STILL don't see your own hypocrisy.

First off, please post a link, any link, to any valid article(s) that prove J.K.Rowling uses occult facts in her book. The reason being, you are the FIRST person I've heard say that.

As I mentioned previously, I've read all 5 books so far, and haven't seen anything in there that could pass for an occult. What I've seen is imagination at its best-- something ANYONE could think of. Come to think of it, you *may* be half-right. Mayb she DID do research on occults before writing her novels; mayb that's why her novels read so well-- because they're half-grounded in reality. I don't know.

Be that as it may, that still does not make the HP novels "eeeeevil". If you had read any, you'd know that Harry Potter's task is to GET RID OF the TRUE evil sorcerers.

Secondly, she's turning something negative into something good.

Next, she does not come out and suggest that children go and start practicing witchcraft. Nor does she make any mention of any "gods" whatsoever. The whole book is centered around doing GOOD, using wizardy as the method of conveying the message.

Oh, well. Until you open your mind and at least read ONE book cover to cover, you're not going to have an

I'm sorry if I offended anyone, but what I was saying was that I don't feel comfortable reading the Potter books. Maybe you got something different out of the books than I did. That's why I don't tell people to not read them. But, it has been proved that Rowling uses actual occult facts in her books. I don't feel comfortable reading a book like that just for fun.

Oh, brother . . . Roll Eyes Roll Eyes

It's laughable that so many Christians think Harry Potter books are eeeeevil.

If "missbutterworth" had actually taken the time to READ the books *themselves*, she would know that the HP books are NEITHER good nor bad. They're in fact, nuetral. However, having read EVERY SINGLE ONE of her books, *I* can actually say with some authority that J.K. Rowling's books are far, far more good than bad. Number one, in her most recent book, she spends nearly a whole *chapter* on Christmas! And, not one, NOT ONE page on the holiday of Halloween-- which is something you'd expect for a book that "supposedly" teaches whichcraft, hmmmmmm?

Of course, (again), missbutterworth would know this if she had taken the time to read the actual BOOKS-- not just heresay from magazines.

It might interest some of you to know that I, myself, am christian. However, when fellow christians start making fools of themselves by saying things like "harry potter books are evil", I can only laugh. Big Grin

Number one, because they obviously haven't done their fact-checking-- which is essential in ANY debate.

Secondly, because it is hypocritical. It's okay for C.S. Lewis' books to have magic, because he makes actual references to God-- but NOT okay for J. K. Rowling's books to have the same exact type of magic-- because she doesn't mention God.

Not EVERYTHING in this life has to have a reference to God for it to promote values, for crying out loud! (And YES, the HP novels do, indeed, promote values. I was actually very inspired by certain points in them). Again, again, though, I can say that because-- you got it-- I actually read the BOOKS.

Case closed. Roll Eyes

i veiw myself as a full time christian, i do my best to do what's right and what god wants me to do.. i'm very out spoken..i love to read, there is a ton of great christian literature out there and i read that but i also read a ton of other kinds of books like harry potter. i hate how ppl are taking this fantisy book and making it an evil book.... i could understand a 9 year old reading it then telling their parents that they want to be a witch when they grow up compleatly wrong! however i have to say that if a person is mature enought that they can tell the difference between fantisy and reality then they can read harry potter

i am also a christian and i was wondering the same thing. when the first one came out i tried reading it and i didn't feel comfortable reading it. i did read up on j.k. rowling and the potter books though. from what i can understand she uses alot of occult facts in her books and the characters in her books are repeatedly not punished when they lie or hurt people. and that some of the adults even "encourage" the lieing by not punishing the students when they break the rules. Razz but that's just my opinion.

I believe in God and he gave us one thing that separates us from animals. We have our minds. We have the ability to think and reason. So if God gave us this shouldn't he also let us be able to read books we like. Yes, witchcraft may be against the religion, but I say I have the right to read what I want. If God gave me the power to think, I have the right to choose as well.

prisoner of azkaban. I have a question now. If you are a Christian (therefore you don't in any way believe in witchcraft) is it wrong to read books like Harry Potter. I'm a Christian, I still read them but I have one friend who thinks I'm wrong for doing so. What do you think?
