I've been hearing lately that Yellowstone National Park is going to erupt, or parts of it at least.

Scientists and various news media organizations are out there investigating it, from what my sources are telling me.

If you guys live in or around there, or have family and friends, I'd warn them...

Not to repeat many people on this thread, but Yellowstone is only the top of a massive volcano. It (obviously) doesn't go off much, but when it does (and I have heard numerous times that it's not too far off in the future), it will go off in a major way. I don't quite remember all the details, but it was from my old local newspaper in Texas (aka the Houston Chronicle).

holy gosh you moron, it is going to blow up between now and 19,000 AD. It is a supervolcano, if it erupts and humans are still on earth, then they are all going to die of starvation and acid rain anyway.

well I watched this program on BBC 1 last night as I live in england and it explains the magma chamber and the main worry about it..

what most volcanic scientists don't want is just one clump of magma and want small chambers instead of one huge magma chambe which by the looks of it..it may be just that, and if they have a large euption that could trigger it to a VEI 8 (some huge eruption thingy)

And this could cause a super eruption, and the eruption could most certainly kill alot of people as its a 3000sq km and can reach new york...

Also the pyroclastic cloud may not go as far but can do enough damage as the volcano is basically the size of colorado and the actuall magma is the bottom layer of yellow stone park...

if you disagree with this I don't mind as we can all share our opinions but we must be careful because the predictions could be staring in 6 months (that is what I've heard alot of)

It could easily screw up most of Wyoming if it was big enough. Look at the Mt. St. Helens eruption. How many hundreds of square miles were affected by that eruption?

Being a Wyomingite, I have first-hand details.

Basically, there is an underground volcano in Yellowstone National Park that is large enough to destroy a good part of Wyoming if it were to ever blow. It is also past it's expiration date, so to speak. They had a group of geologists and such go up there and take a look, and it doesn't appear to be at risk of exploding anytime soon.

Actually, over the summer I was hearing about that because my friend has family there. I heard that there were going to be more gysers or something? I don't really remember but I definately heard that somethign bad was happening.

And in Joey's defense, he never mentioned anything about the "end of the world"... at least not in this post.
