YouthNOISE, please put this on the front page Wink

I am officially running for Midlothian (Texas) School Board - graduated from Midlothian High School just two years ago, and I ran last year, lost in a three-way race.

But hey, I'm going to put a solid effort into this campaign and am going to rely on solid grassroots help.

If you'd like to help out financially (haha, yeah, I need $$$ for yard signs) or something else (letters to the editor would help), then feel free to do so.

It's time the youth stand up and be counted. It's time for us -- if we really believe strongly in what we say - to finally step up to the plate.

My platform can be viewed here:

http://www.joeydauben.com/Issues.htm

Letters to the editor can be sent here:

Sheila@elliscountypress.com

Midlothian@todaynewspapers.net

Let's get a grassroots thing going for this -- anybody up for the challenge?

Nah, Joey's fairly intelligent.

I'm quite sure that he's capable of doing great things, but that religious attitude of his can be rather exasperating at times (e.g. wanting to convert everyone to Christianity).

One must never let his/her religion interfere with the lives of others.

i'd like to think that knowledge about drugs' potential side effects would discourage people from abusing them.

i think that jookly is asking people to look at drugs analytically - know what a given drug does, how it works, what the side effects are (physiologically, psychologically, and legally), and then determine if you wish to use them. don't simply blacklist drugs as terrible things simply because you don't know much about them and have been told to be afraid of them.

i'm not afraid of drug use and i don't live a doped up life. i just learn about drugs, use ones that i feel comfortable with, and continue living my life.

fear of drugs perpetuates a lack of education about drugs. perhaps to you this results in lower numbers of drug users. to me, i see it resulting in more drug abuse and drug fatalities.

dimenhydrinate (virtually equivalent to diphenhydramine) is dramamine, the anti-motion sickiness drug. it works as an anti-histamine drug, but it has a large anti-cholinergic side effect profile which can lead to hallucinations - usually of colors, sometimes musical - and light-headedness which is why some people take it recreationally. it can also lead to nastier things like blurred vision, dry mouth and eyes, nausea, vomiting, abdominal pain, and difficulty breathing (your mucous gets really thick). most people report that they feel agitated and some feel paranoid during the trip.

personally, i would avoid using it recreationally - not because i am afraid of the unknown, but because, after learning about it, it doesn't seem worthwhile to me. the other approach to discouraging its recreational use is to just tell people to stay away from it and don't tell them what it does. popular education vs. just-say-no approaches - preach whichever one seems more effective to you.

ps - apologies to joey for sidetracking his thread. just wanted to add my 2 cents in really quick.

What exactly did I take out of context?
quote:
I am not trying to say that you should continue to use drugs and i support your idea to discontinue your use all together. I just have to take a stand when i see someone generalizing drugs into one catagory.

You're stating that people should know more about drugs before proclaiming them all harmful -or- beneficial, right? Uh huh.
quote:
Dont be afraid of drugs because you made a mistake. In the future i would advise you to
Know your Body
Know your Mind
Know your Substance
Know your Source.

Actually, if people weren’t afraid of taking drugs, we'd live in an extremely doped-up society. I know my body and my mind. But say I wanted to take this horrible drug called “Dimenhydrinate.” If I knew the substance (i.e. what it was) and where it came from, and proceeded to take that drug, it would be okay then?
Hummm..

quote:
Are you advising people to take -illegal- drugs, or over-the-counter drugs such as Advil, Tylenol, etc.?

Neither, you took that out of context the entire quote should be

quote:
Dont be afraid of drugs because you made a mistake. In the future i would advise you to

Know your Body
Know your Mind
Know your Substance
Know your Source.

Also in the same post i specifically say i am not encouraging drugs.

You could modify this statement a little more. Are you advising people to take -illegal- drugs, or over-the-counter drugs such as Advil, Tylenol, etc.?

Well, there is a totally awesome "new" political party aimed mainly at teenagers/young adults (high school, college-aged students) and it's called, "Party Y."

http://www.party-y.org

Regardless of right, left, center, libertarian, Republican, Democrat, Libertarian, Green, etc., Party Y seeks to attract younger "leaders."

Run for office; help campaign; stand up to voice concerns.

If you're like me and want to get involved in politics and make yourself heard via government, this party is for you!

(no, this wasn't a pre-typed announcement; it was all out of my fingers)

At least just browse around and see if you like it.

My campaign, however, is doing very good:

Hey joey,
I realize this isnt exactly what this thread is about but since it is about you, well, anyways.

i just finished reading on your website your experience with marijuana. I was pretty surprised by your statments since in general you seem to analyze situations very well.

You see, you took 6 hard drugs at once, to blame any of the effects you experienced on marijuana would be foolish and not very rational. The fact that you will get extremely inebriated when mixing drugs is something anyone can tell you. (Even just pot and alchohol can usually lay me flat out for the night).

I geuss what im saying is that dont blame your bad experience on the drugs, it is in the end, your fault for being irresposible and taking a drug when you werent %100 sure what would be in it.

I am not trying to say that you should continue to use drugs and i support your idea to discontinue your use all together. I just have to take a stand when i see someone generalizing drugs into one catagory.

Dont be afraid of drugs because you made a mistake. In the future i would advise you to

Know your Body
Know your Mind
Know your Substance
Know your Source.

if you do all of those you are taking drugs responsibly and very little can go wrong.

The only drug i seriously dont think anyone should do is Dimenhydrinate
NO ONE SHOULD DO Dimenhydrinate
DO NOT DO Dimenhydrinate
STAY AWAY FROM Dimenhydrinate

I am running for Place 2 on the seven-member Midlothian School Board.

Opinions from my district matter; opinions from teens from other states matter.

People have told me that they can't write because they live out of my district - I'm like, why?

Eh, well.

It's up to you.

Dig, why don't you design a website FOR me? I'm not a pro obviously, but if it affects you that much, just tell me what you'd rather see/not see.

What position are you running for?

And I live in Georgia, so I seriously doubt that my opinions really matter over there in Texas Wink

That website of yours is an eyesore. I suggest you get a new layout, before promoting it any further.

I find it hard to take seriously...
