Hellsing's pretty good, if you like blood and guns and stuff. I also like Shoujo Kakumei Utena myself, and the ever classic Bishoujo Senshi Sailor Moon (which I consider a "gateway Anime" -- as in a gateway drug). Hey, IR, have you been to any Cons? Cosplayed? Anything like that?
OH! It's Gun Smith Cats and... I don't remember... Spirited of the Way, and Princess Moniako (I need to check the spelling) But, very good anime movies. -Sunset
The person who made Sailormoon, Naoko Take-something, did not also make Utena. Her other works include Cherry Project, PQ Angels, Love Witch, SailorV, and that is all I can think of off of memory. I do think that the Sailormoon television series and the Utena movie (Series?) were directed by the same person, but the creators of Sailormoon and Utena are far from the same.
Woah... I mean.. Woah... o.o I'm glad I'm not alone.. WHAT AM I SAYING? Of coarse I'm not alone.. I love .Hack//Sign. My friends almost through the games and crap. Slayers. N one mentioned Lina. You shunned her.. o.o And what's that one with the priest dude... Blue hair.. Says 'NO DA!' a lot. Anyhow, I watch Inuyasha and Yu-yu the most. Sesshoumaru and Youko Kurama being my favorites.. I have a question for you folk's opinion.. What do you think about those freaks who say Rin and Sesshoumaru go together? I mean... COME ON! She's like what.. Six years old. >.>; I think a good pair is Sesshoumaru and Kagome.. o.o Or maybe Sango and him.
Good anime: Ranma 1/2 - It is one of the funniest I have ever seen. Gundam Wing - Hot guys who have the best mecha, and a pretty good plot. Digimon - Seasons 1 and 2. The others... just... no. (Yay for Ken!) Neon Genesis Evangelion - Awesome plot, lots of religious references.
Bad anime: I really have not found any that were truly bad (yet). The only thing I do not like about some of them is the animation itself (I do not like how they draw the characters).
Good manga: Marmelade Boy - Thank you Rito!
Bad manga: Eh, I mostly borrow, so I only read the ones everyone else likes.
Is Weiss Krutz any good? I have heard mixed opinions, and I want to know if it is worth buying.
I would much rather read the manga than watch the anime...but I've always liked reading better than watching TV.
"I would never call myself otaku, but I like Serial Experiments Lain and Boogiepop Phantom. Have you ever heard of them?" I've seen some of Boogiepop Phantom...a friend and I rented a VHS tape of it. It was...interesting.
"because when you watch seasons 1&2 enough, it is truly the greatest show ever." Hahaha..this is true. I was a huge Digimon fan, never liked the Pokemon though...but seasons 1 and 2 are undoubtably the best!
"Angel Sanctuary (The manga was better. The anime is super-cheesy)" I was actually JUST watching Angel Sanctuary. A friend loaned it to me...the anime IS super-cheesy. I'll go read the manga if you say it's better. I usually find that to be true anyways ::shrugs::.
I love the manga "Marmalade Boy"...I don't know why. There's so much miscommunication and I find that funny. I've been wanting to see/read .hack//SIGN and .hack//legend of the twilight...is one better than the other, or should I just read/see both of them?
Most of the Japanese cartoons and comics I have seen have come along as a result of my Kaori Yuki fanship, not the other way around. Other than that, I do not pay too much attention to author names either.
This site has a lot of Kaori Yuki stuff on it, and most of the other comics I mentioned. Except for like, Sailormoon...you could check it out if you have the time. You have read Angel Sanctuary, I take it?
Good Animes: .hack//SIGN [ignore the stupid peoples who say its childish it has yuri content for goodness sake!] Witch Hunter Robin [storyline isnt that good--yet, have yet to buy second dvd, but i think it'll pick up. robin is hot if you all didnt know that already. i dont care if she's blonde, she's hot!] i just realized how sad that sounded. Rurouni Kenshin and Samurai X [duh! have you ever imagined Kenshin in the mall in a santa suit handing out gifts to people? i think i laughed for about ten minutes after watching Samurai X today and thinking about that.] InuYasha [he's got the bad asss dog demon thing going on] Haibane-Renmei [havent seen it yet, but ive read enough to make it seem as if i have]
Bad Animes: Yu Gi Oh! [and all the damned jump comic animes for that matter, icluding Yuu Yuu Hakusho and DBZ and even Naruto] Utena and Sailor Moon [like i said before *gag*]
Good Mangas: well, ive read only a few... .hack//legend of the twilight [Ouka kicks asss, and she's a pretty damned cool werewolf.]
Bad Mangas: must I say jump comics again? okay... JUMP COMICS!
quote: Do you think Kurama's a pansy?
no, he kicks asss too, i think he's just in touch with his "earthy" side. heh. okay, im not very good with puns tonight, but just wait, i'll make it one of these days!
Fushigi Yuugi gets old quick, but it's sort of addictive anyway...plus, great for doing voice overs with friends since the characters are always gesticulating madly.
WK, I could watch with the sound and subtitles off and not care. It's purely for guy-gazing. (yes, yes, a sad specimen of humanity am I.)
Utena is wonderful. Although I didn't like the movie as much as the series, particularly the style of Utena's hair. What's up with the straight on top, then wildly curly on the bottom?
My anime and manga viewing/reading is somewhat hit and miss, since my parents have banned me from any contact with it. I've had to go underground...*looks around furtively*
As for authors, I can barely remember names in English, much less Japanese. They all sound the same to me.
I used to like Fushigi Yuugi and WK, but then they got old after awhile... Add Utena to my Anime Rocks; I personally love the story in all its incarnations, and Digimon (Kind of corny USA Dubbed edition), because when you watch seasons 1&2 enough, it is truly the greatest show ever.
Since Jen Dragon started manga rocks, I would like to share some too... I am a much larger fan of Japanese Graphic Literature. I like everything and anything by Kaori Yuuki, but most especially Angel Sanctuary, Count Cain, Kaine, Boys Next Door, Gravel Kingdom, Ludwig, and Bloodhound, and I liked her before Angel Sanctuary was all that hot in the States. Yamada Taro is good and funny, Midare Somenishi is good and sad, and I have grown to like Sailormoon too, it is kind of both.
Well, I must admit that my taste in anime is based more on the prettiness of the bishounen than the plot...but that's okay, right? By day, I may be a demure, reserved scholar *cough cough* but by night...drooling fangirl. And no matter what time of day it is, my babbling never lessens. So shoot me.
Anyway...
Rock: Hellsing (*gasp!* I like the story, and Integra, despite being female, is an awesome character.) Gundam Wing (Duo Maxwell...need I say more?) Fushigi Yuugi (Despite the ongoing soap-opera-ish-ness of it, and the constant "Miaka!" "Tamahome!" scenes, it has Nuriko. And Nuriko rocks.) Utena (you can watch it over and over and still notice new things) Weiss Kreuz (Yohji and Schuldig...my dysfunctional yaoi couple of the month...sorry to traumatize you if you're non-yaoi...)
Um...sock?...: Vampire Hunter D (I hate it, though I've been told that Bloodlust is much better. The animation is ugly and the plot is stupid.) Angel Sanctuary (The manga was better. The anime is super-cheesy)
Manga: Rock: Under the Glass Moon (Luka wears bondage gear, Luel is incredibly pretty, and the women have awesome Gothic-Lolita outfits. There's even shonen ai! Hurrah!) Petshop of Horrors (Count D is gorgeous, the symbolism is interesting, Leon cracks me up, and they have good one-liners. I've never seen the anime.)
Sock: Gravitation (they took my yaoi boys and screwed them up. damnit.)
Also, the fact that they don't translate any of the good manga socks. Or whatever.
Okay, I have more, but it would take forever and ever to list them, and these were the first I thought of, those not necessarily my favorites.
I would never call myself otaku, but I like Serial Experiments Lain and Boogiepop Phantom. Have you ever heard of them? I have never watched Chobits, but I have heard a lot about it, and I saw the first 4 or 6 episodes of YuYu Hakusho, I thought the story was really sad until I found out the guy comes back to life and starts fighting evil or whatever...
