Hey everyone!
I'm sorry if this is a repeat thread! I just need to get some advice on how to change the way that my community looks at things. Every summer, my town puts on a musical-the auditions are open to anyone ages 8 and up, and everyone who comes loves the shows. I have been involved since I was 8 (I'm 15 now), and this summer the director decided to do Once On This Island. For those of you who don't know it, it's a play about class distinction, and how the world is a better place when you don't discriminate. The storyline has been interpreted by at least one citizen of my town as mimicing the history of Haiti. I personally do not see the connections, but the complaint was brought to town hall, and now we may not get to put on a show this summer. I am trying to get my friends together and write letters to the town manager stating our opinion, and maybe getting us to go to a town council meeting. Do you think that this is the right thing, or should I alter my plans? I have room/time to change plans around. Anything is welcome- thanks! ~Danielle

I like the idea of holding another town council, only this time you should try to talk. You need to find a way to get your town to understand the problem of diveristy. Maybe you could invite people of different races to come up there with you and have them teach a little about their culture. A lot of people don't realize that racism is still alive today and that diversity is a good thing, they just need to understand that. You should also summarize the play for them so they know what it is about.

well I am sorry that your town is a little crazy (if you don't mind me saying) because they should understand that we satarted some where and have to see that we have made it far from where we started and have to show that.
