On June 13th, victims of family violence will be recognized as people around the country work to raise awareness through public education. Why educate the public on the issue of abuse? Family violence is a daunting problem that needs to be addressed. Raising awareness is essential because victims are often too scared or embarrassed to report abuse. Plus, raising awareness is the only way to educate your community about the seriousness and prevalence of child abuse and domestic violence. Check out these statistics: - Nearly four children die as a result of child abuse each day.
- Only about 1/7 of domestic assaults are brought to the attention of the police.
- Among all violent crimes, rape/sexual assault is the crime least often reported to law enforcement.
