read thisThat's pathetic. Planned Parenthood is getting together with the Girl Scouts to get some early customers. Absolutly pathetic.

quote: "It is important to understand, we are not at war with the Girl Scouts, but that we are trying to protect young girls from the evils of Planned Parenthood," said Sedlak. "We are simply asking that Girl Scout councils stop their partnership with Planned Parenthood."
What "evils" of Planned Parenthood? Firstly, I am so sick of the pro-life stance on abortion. Secondly, Planned Parenthood does not only deal with abortions and teaching girls about sex is not promoting teen sex or teen pregnancy. It's better for girls to learn about sex from an organization like this or from their parents (though some parents don't teach their children about it) then for them to learn about it from their peers. Teen girls are more likely to have sex and get pregnant if they learn from their peers than if they learn from an organization like this or their parents. Because then they know that abstinence is a smart and good choice and they know the reasons why. I see nothing wrong with Planned Parenthood teaching girls about sex. I actually think it's a great idea. That way, they'll know the facts.

It wouldn't be such a bad thing if that was all they were doing.

Ok...so tell me, why is it such a bad thing that they hand out contraceptives to teens? We all know that there are teens all over the U.S. having sex. How many of them are going to go ask there parents if they can borrow some money for condoms or whatever? {Most} teens these days aren't going to listen to someone if they start preaching abstinence. They will more than likely just shut them out. So, instead of saying, "You shouldn't have sex," why not say, "Well you shouldn't have sex, but just in case you decide to, here is some protection." Wouldn't that be a better approach?

Man, and I always thought that the solution to the problem of abortion would be to make abortion legal - not encouraging sex with contraceptives.

Which is why not having sex is always a good idea. Not saying I think teen sex is wrong or w/e...caz no one can stop you if you want to do it or if you feel ready, but if teens weren't so h.orn.y,STDs wouldn't be so common.

Well, STDs are a huge problem for today's youth. Most contraceptives don't prevent STDs at all.

Why don't all of you who think PP is so wonderful, do a little research. I recently got a book about PP and it's frickin' amazing the things that are in there. They aren't trying to help us. They're trying to get $$$. Do some research on Margaret Sanger. I also read another article about a pro-lifer who wanted to see if the things being said about PP were really true, so she called them up, told them she was a teen who was pregnant and looking to find a clinic to get an abortion. She said she was underage (apparently wherever she was, if you were under a certain age, your parents had to be contacted.)So PP told her they could lie about her age if she gave a little extra $$$ and everything would be hush hush. GREAT organization, right?

Planned Parenthood is one of the worst organizations in the country. They support abortion and hand out contraceptives. What a moral group of people! So, handing out the pill and other contraceptives teaches teens and others about the effects of sex? Or, does it just provide teens the ability to have "safer" premarital sex and just add on to their mortal sins?

Here's another point. Planned Parenthood doesn't just cater to teens. They help women get the pill if they can't afford it otherwise, or insurance wont' cover it. So, NOT just teens.

I learned more about sex in health class than from my parents. It'd be nice if they did, but mine don't. I don't personally believe in abortion, but planned parenthood is about a lot more than that. They also help prevent pregnancy by promoting safe sex, so less women might be in a situation where they think they need one.

quote: Yea, they pretty much support teen sex.
No. They support teens knowing about pregnancy. They support teens being informed about sex and pregnancy, because they, unlike idiots like you, realize that teens are going to have sex no matter what, and it's better to inform them of what could happen rather than just sit back idly and tell them not to do something that they are going to do regardless. Teens are going to have sex. It's a fact. I'm not saying it's good or bad, I'm just saying that it's the truth. Do you honestly think it's better for possibly sexually active teens to hear authority say "Don't have sex" rather than to be uninformed about pregnancy? Do you honestly think not teaching them about it is helping them at all? It's not influencing their actions; it's informing them of the possible consequences and how to prevent them from happening.

Planned Parenthood teaches girls how to be responsible. It's not like they say have sex but don't get pregnant! They tell everyone they teach on the subject of sex that the best way to protect yourself from not getting pregnant is to not have sex. Abstinance is the best form of contraception, and they make sure the girls know that.
Luvabugg...how do you expect people to agree with your arguments if you admit that you're ignorant? You're pathetic.

Planned Parenthood helps numerous teenagers. They don't have sex for you, but they help you with whatever decision you make about abortion, using contraceptives, etc.

As for you, luvabug, abortions are not the only thing Planned Parenthood does. Honestly, must you be so ignorant?
