I am only a freshman but I'm dying to do some volunteer work. The problem is, I'm not very physically active. I play no sports and I don't garden or anything. My home life is easy too. We're no where near rich, but even so, I have very little chores. I spend most of my time at church, reading, writing, or drawing. Or school, of course. >^..^<
Habitats for Humanity is out of the question at the moment - I could never build a house, I'm a moron with a hammer and I'd smash everything but the nail. My mom says maybe some day when I'm not such a ditz. I'm not really a ditz, but I get cross-eyed a lot... my glasses are bifocals; I've had 'em for months and I can't get used to them.
My only idea is soup kitchens, but my mom doesn't really want me to do it... anyone have any suggestions?

Umm I think that you should first start within your community. Find out what the people in your everyday life are having problems with. like if someone in your school or neighborhood doesn't have food or clothing start a drive and that helps out alot. Then you can start doing the bigger projects that have to do with a bigger causes.

Do a penny drive at your school. Thats what I did, it was really effective and not too hard (esp if you can find a few people to help you). We gave the money to MSF ( www.doctorswithoutborders.com). Try a food or clothing drive. You say you go to church so maybe you could join up with something they're doing or get them started with volunteering with drives, at homeless shelters, you could help out with a youth group... whatever. See if your church would be interested in pulling together a missions trip.

Try your local homeless shelter or boys and girls club. I volunteer at a homeless shelter where I tutor elementary school kids in the after school program, it's really amazing because you don't need any special talents and you really can make a difference.

search google for a camp in your area for kids with special needs. they always need volunteers (those kids take a lot of work) i worked at camp Echo Bridge last summer and it was the most amazing and fun experience of my life! im definatly going back this summer.

aargh! This is so CRAP!!! All the volunteer organisations in my area are for adults!! They are looking for adults with specific skills and it annoys me so much! Why can't young people do stuff!!!

Places to volunteer :
1. local library - usually to reshelve books 2. join a local volunteer groups (Leo Club, Interact Club, etc..) they'll have projects for you to participate in 3. be a conselor at a summer day camp 4. interships are always great too 5. volunteer at the elderly center
There's alot more but it varies depending on where you live. The smaller the town, the fewer the oppurtunities.

Volunteer at the library, the hospitol, or the pound. You can join Key Club or any Enviromental Clubs at your school too.
