hey guys! I'm a Canadian teacher living in Japan and run a volunteer org called "Go M.A.D." (Go Make A Difference) Check us out at http://www.go-mad.org and see what you think! We support small projects such as orphanages, schools, and communities, in countries around the world, from Nepal to Thailand, Indonesia to El Savador. We need volunteers to lead trips to these projects, fundraiser on behalf of them at home, and send them donations such as school supplies and toys. We also seek child sponsors and Pen Pals. Our close connections to the projects means that your money goes straight to where it needs to be - no admin costs exist because we do all this in our free time! If you're interested, drop by our site and drop me a line! cheers, go mad, go krazee, go make a difference out there! lindz

That sounds similar to a youth organization at my school...it's called B.w.B. (Building with Books). We meet as a club during the schoolyear and help to raise money with carwashes, bake sales, walk-a-thons, etc. At the end of the year, B.w.B. sends the money to a developing country to help build a school there. Clubs across the country are involved in this, and it's a fun way to make a difference.
Also, each year, club officials choose two members from each school involved to go to a developing country and physically help to build the school with the villagers for two weeks. One of my best friends went to Mali, West Africa last February, and she had a great experience!
