"Kill the Drill on Padre Island
Currently, BNP Petroleum is planning to drill for natural gas on Padre Island in south Texas. Not only is Padre Island a national seashore and visited by 800,000 Americans each year, but it is also the nesting ground for the most endangered sea turtle in the world, the Kemp's Ridley. The last two drilling attempts within the last 20 years, have come up dry. In addition, the last time BNP tried to drill on Padre Island for natural gas, they left radioactive equipment on the island, eventually burying in the area. National Seashores fall under federal jurisdiction, and are considered to be protected public land. Don't let legal loopholes allow the U.S. government to open up Padre Island to fossil fuel interests."

this is what the letter looks like:

"I am deeply concerned about the natural gas drilling
project planned for Padre Island National Seashore. In
November 2002, the National Park Service issued a permit
for BNP Petroleum to drill for natural gas on Padre
Island. The last two drilling attempts within the last 20
years, have come up dry. In addition, last time BNP
tried to drill on Padre Island for natural gas, they left
radioactive equipment on the island, eventually burying in
the area.

Padre Island National Seashore is an essential habitat for
several endangered and threatened species. Among
them is the Kemp's Ridley sea turtle, the most endangered
sea turtle in the world. In order to lay their eggs,
female Kemp's Ridley turtles will be forced to cross the
paths of huge 18-wheeler trucks needed for constructing
the natural gas drilling site.

In 1962, President Kennedy signed into law a bill
establishing Padre Island National Seashore. The purpose of
the
bill was to protect Padre Island and its unique landscape
and ecosystem from destructive human activities.
Allowing the natural gas drilling project on Padre Island
to continue would undermine the government's protection
of all U.S. national seashores and national parks.

National seashores are public land and belong to all
citizens of this country. I strongly urge you to revoke BNP
Petroleum's drilling permit and ensure the protection of
this national treasure for future generations.

Sincerely,"

I think you need to work on saving the world first.. apparently the turtles have dropped down on the campaign list of world affairs. But..

The Newly Proposed World Affair List:

1) Save Turtles.
2) Stop Terrorism
3) Promulgate "War on Drugs"
4) Fix Deadly Pollution Problems
5) Find Osama bin Laden
6) Etc.

Don't get me wrong; I like turtles as much as the next person - considering I love animals more than people - but eh.
