You would have to be having sex but yes, it would be illegal. I would suggest that you either break up or keep it "just friends" sort of dating. And tell your parents, or they could make trouble for him like Meg said.

my bro was seventeen, going out with a 16 yr old and when he turned 18, they were illegal for 4 months until she turned 17. they didn't have to break up. they just had to not publicly date. like, nothing extremely serious. if ur family knows and its fine with them nothin bad should happen.

My sister is 15 and was dating an 18 year old. She kept insisting that the age difference didn't matter, despite pretty much everyone saying that it wasn't a healthy relationship.

Just recently, she realized that her relationship with him really wasn't working for her, that they were both at completely different points in their lives; she also realized that she was never going to be able to change him.

I'm not going to tell you that you shouldn't be dating him, just be careful. Also, if your parents don't approve of your relationship and they find out about anything sex-related that goes on, they CAN get him in legal trouble for it...get his name plastered all over sex offender registries for life...

Just please keep this in mind.

I think you're right Aguagon. That's why I wanted to know if her parents knew his age and if she was dating him. Because if they don't agree with their relationship, then they will have problems in the future.

I could be wrong, but I believe (at least, I hope, because it'd be a weird as hell law otherwise) you have to be having sex for it to be illegal. And even then, your boyfriend is only going to get busted if someone turns him in. So if you're virgins, no problem. If you're not, be careful and keep it to yourselves. You'll be fine.

Yes, it would be illegal. Do your parents know you're dating him and his current age?
