There are millions of members worldwide and thousands more singles are signing up on a daily basis. But does this show that dating online really works?

I met my girlfriend on a dating site last year. We spent much time online. We chatted for a while before exchanging our cell numbers. We chose restaurant to meet and we spent a lovely few hours chatting, shopping, etc... Now, we meet occasionally to know each other very well. Our relationship is going very well and internet helped me to find out her.

What about you guys? What is your experience about internet dating? Share your experience or story about internet dating here.

I met my girlfriend online, we started as good friends, ended up meeting and decided to start dating, we're very happy together, though I'm off with The Corps so we're stuck being long distance Frown but that's just military life in general not specific to online stuff.

Hell I think we should be open to meeting people from any source, you never know what angle that right person is going to come from.

I found my boyfriend online. We started talking when we found each other on facebook and talked online for about two months before we started talking on the phone. I think it's important to be really careful about meeting people online but I definitely think it can work.

My personal choice is to meet people in person.
I dont like online dating because I mean, you never really know if the person you're talking to, is really who you think they are. I know, I know,
meeting like at a certain place but what if its a pedafile? And I prefer doing the stuff you cant do over the computer, Hugging, kissing, holding hands etc =) in person. But I guess if your in love it doesn't matter.

I think online dating could work. It just proves that technology can be used for good, not just the hyped-up evil.

It can be a dangerous place, but mostly it can be a frustrating place. Not everyone can meet and physically be with their signficant other that they met online.

And that, in a sense, is the negative aspect of online dating. There are people who find it unnatural and not common, but it's the experience that vitally makes all the difference.

I've never used the internet to try to find someone for a relationship, I personally just have trust issues with people I meet online, and every person I've dated is someone whom I've known as a friend for a period of time before we began dating. With that said, I think if people can find the person they love half way across the world through the internet, it's great. After years after his divorce, my friend's dad met a woman from Turkey online... and now she's in the States with him and they're happily married.

But like all the other people said, it is different when you begin a relationship online and not in person... I feel like you create a sense of what they're like in your head before you meet them, and I do feel like everyone acts (at least) a little different in person than they do when chatting online.

I say, don't depend on the internet completely to find your true love, but if you want to give it a try, it never hurts to meet some one new.

I've met people through sites that weren't about dating. Sometimes, though, I have come to find that internet friendships don't translate so well into the real world, and that it's easier to like somebody when you don't actually have to deal with them in person. But for the most part if I clicked with them online and over the phone then it was the same in person.

Ohhh I just noticed you said OkCupid. I have a profile on there, but I never added a picture or anything. The quizzes are really neat! But, my friends have met people off of there and they are happily dating now. There was 1 creepy guy one of my friends made me meet with her, but whatever, LOL.

I've never dated anyone I didn't meet in person first. But I'm old school like that. Doesn't mean it won't work out for another person, of course.

online datting i guess works,
but i think you miss out on the experiences of meeting someone for the first time in person. you can do alot avoiding personal encounters but certain things you need to be able to do.

but if not than i guess its cool.

I think that it can work. And from what you've said, it sounds like it's working or it has potential to work. Just like everything in life, you won't know unless you try yourself.

I haven't used online dating before, but I think a lot of people don't trust it because people onlne are not always who they say they are.
