yes, i know what naive means: Lacking worldly experience and understanding or Showing or characterized by a lack of sophistication and critical judgment

And i know i spelled it wrong, it's a pun. No, not a pun, it's more of a defeating the purpose type of thing. It's like calling someone stupid and instead saying stuhpid. I just do that. Come on, i'm not THAT bad of a speller!Big Grin

I love getting flamed. It's amusing.

Next time you're going to insult someone, try justifying your point. If you even have one.

Bella, do you know what the word 'naive' means?

Also, 'intellegence' is spelled 'intelligence'.

Ah, another sexist topic.

Look, yes, there are guys out there who treat women like ****. Everyone knows it, and there isn't much that can be done. *******s are *******s, and that's that. But please, do not generalize the gender. There are many men out there who do not treat women this way.

Furthermore, it goes the other way as well. Women can be just as bad, I witness it almost every single day at my school. Making a comment like all men are evil woman-abusers is just ignorant.

That's a good point bella. I never actually say stuff like that it's just what I think. You know, 'personal thoughts', the kind of thing you think but never actually say.

P.S. I'm too shy to say Sh*t like that to a girl's face because really, it's none of my business.

I honestly think it depends on how they are raised. If they are raised to respect and treat women right and are shown and lead by example than they will show every woman in their life what they have lived. If they were not raised that way than they will still show what they lived to every woman they encounter in their life.

Ithink it depends. I have a very free relationship with a girl in my grade, who is also my best friend, and I can say any kind of rotten comment to her, and she will not take it seriously, because it isn't serious. A normal "hello" would be "ew, your parents let you out of the house like that," and she would be like "ew, matate" (spanish, kill yourself.) The constant verbal abuse is the spice of life, and neither of us take it seriously. A remark might be "I think you should stab yourself repeatedly in the chest with a butcher knife until you die," and I say "ew, set yourself on fire." O yeah, neither of us are "on the edge." We are normal, into the school plays, and she is a pretty, nice girl, the archetypical "jersy girl," complete with alicia keys aparal, which she makes me carry bags full of when we are in the mall. (She would probably kill me if she sees this, so let this topic die.)

You missed my point. If anything, the media should enforce one's world view, not "force" opinions upon a person. Perhaps the couch-potato generation needs to sit down read or go out and see the world for themselves.

I believe that a competent person would
a. not form a biased opinion based on limited sources.
b. not be naive enough to accept the validity of a single genre of music/lifestyle/movie/etc.
c. enrich themselves with as many cultures and experiences as possible to form opinions of his/her own.

Ignorant judgements are made by those who have been overexposed to a certain ideal for too long and unwilling understand other ideas or think outside the box. I agree with you that "when you have something like that forced down your throat from a young age, you get the idea that it's right" but only to a certain extent. In order for their mindset to change, something drastic must happen to shake their convictions.

I hope this thread isn't limited to only girls cuz I have a few thoughts on the topic. As a guy I have done a few (two or three tops) insensitive things that I'm not gonna bother going in to. I'm one of those "nice guys" that always end up finishing last and the one thing I could never figure out is why girls go for guys like that? Is it that they start off a nice guy and end up becoming an a**hole? Or are they a**holes from the start and the girl is just not seeing it? I know that not ALL guys treat their girlfriends badly but I have seen a few really attractive girls being treated badly and I just want to tell them, "you know if I were your boyfriend you would never experience this kind of treatment...I don't know why you put up with it". It must be the "good girl, bad boy" thing. The good girl is attracted to the bad boy, they date, she thinks he'll change, he doesn't, and her feelings get crushed. Ladies, why put yourselves through it? Go for the good guy!

OK, got a couple of things to say on this one.

1)I see this happen A LOT at my school. Guys acting like complete douchebags toward their girlfriends/sisters/friends. It pisses the hell out of me.

2)Confetti: Take a sociology class. Not only does our society condone this kind of behavior, it practically rewards it. Look at music (esp rap), tv, movies, it's all over the place. I'm not trying to excuse them, but when you have something like that forced down your throat from a young age, you get the idea that it's right.

3)I've been really lucky, my guy friends/(ex)boyfriends have been really good. They're the ones I go to when I have problems. I guess most 16 year old girls aren't as lucky.

4)Verticle: of course cheese is sensitive. That's why mac'n'cheese is a comfort food.

...Yumm, mac'n'cheese...
