I'm writing up a proposal for a debate team i am a part of. My idea was about limiting the life term opf a Supreme Court Justice to the age of 65. They are required to retire then. What is your opinion? Why?? thanks

They do undergo annual medical tests, and anyone who is of failing mental health will probably resign out of their own dignity. So this is in effect already.

No, but I do think it should be modified slightly. Every five years there should be a battle to the death between the nine SCJs. As long as they remain alive, they can stay a SCJ. Before the battle, they may vote to decide if it will be fought with weapons or simply hand-to-hand combat.

It is an interesting idea. However, it would only allow for justices to serve for ten-fifteen years. Most justices are commissioned when they are in their early/mid 50s.

I don't know exactly, but I wouldn't be surprised if the average age is already in the 60's or late 50's. Several of the justices appointed by either Bush's father or Clinton are in thier 70's already. What I would like to know is what is the logic behind making the restrictions age based? Why 65?
