okay, i am not 'anti-christ' but is it just me, or are the strong believers only against things because it's against gods word? i mean, gay marriages, abortion, the war...everything! it's getting a little out of hand...

What do you think God is? A lower power? God is just another name for "the higher power." Don't be ashamed to say you believe in God.

Case you haven't noticed people have based their opinions on religion since the beginning of history. From the Crusades, to the Holocaust, the Mid Eastern Crisis to this last election. Politics are shaped by popular opinion. Popular opinion at the moment is ignorance.

OK...I want to know something..do any of you actually know who wrote the bible? I mean people have been writing fiction stories for years....I'm not sure there is a GOD? but a higher power yes...see man wrote the bible so what does that tell you nothing against men or anything just some get to big of a head. People have been adding things to the bible since forever...and it like telephone or rumors they always get out of hand...I again state I do not have a problem with God I believe in a higher bean that well doesn't have a name...maybe there are many gods like the romans believe....for those people who believe in god...he gave you a mind of your own why don't you use it? You can't make every choice on whether or not god will forgive you....I guess you say god can forgive right?

Have you heard of making up your own mind based on what you think is right using your own free will? You don't need some story book telling you what is right or not. Any person should be able to do that on their own. I don't read or "listen" to the Bible. And I am a moral person. Also, BushRocks, why can't you type like a normal person?

If people aren't supposed to base there opinions on religion, which gives them their moral beliefs, what are they supposed to base them on?

Strong Christian believers are against these things because the Bible, which I have been reading, says that doing what God wants will get you into heaven. And I think almost everyone wants to get to heaven.

These strong Christians believe in what God tells them in the Bible is wrong or right because in the end they want total salvation, which is in my opinion one of the most wonderful things you can claim. But in some cases, I believe that people should truly think for themselves and see where they stand on issues and not just what the Bible/God says they should believe in. All of the things that God says in the Bible are morals that many people strive to attain, but I think people need to look inside themselves and find out for themselves what they think is right or wrong and why in their own minds.

There is another thing that keeps influencing too many people and their decisions.

IGNORANCE.

There's a great book called What's the Matter with Kansas? by Thomas Frank, that discusses this. Liberals will like it.

Everyone bases their opinions and stances on what they believe. Whether they are Christian, Jewish, Muslim, Buddhist, atheist, or whatever, the person's views are affected by what they believe. It isn't just Christians waving the Bible and saying "This is why I think the way I do!" (Not that there is anything wrong with that.)

Some people say they think God is now in the white house. If God wanted Bush in the White House to do the US good, God is a moron.

bella123, you're totally right! like our president right now for example, he says he gets these feelings that he should do something, like god's talking to him. i think thats weird, and although he can rely on his feelings, i don't think major decisions that involve the whole country should be based on his "feelings".

kot1977: Maybe you have not figured it out yet, but you don't type your posts in all caps if you want people to take you seriously...no one will value your arguements until you "conform" to the YN standard of typing normally...the only people who type in all caps are "newbies" and then it is obvious even without looking at your post count.

Also, I think most everyone who is against religion and thinks it is "brainwashing" is not a part of a religion. There is a difference between a religion and a cult (well with all of the major religions anyway...). With my religion, Catholicism, there are so many different forms. I am a Roman Catholic, but there are other forms of Catholicism, such as Chaldean (a denomination which I will go to mass for tomorrow ironically...). They have similar beliefs, but they do things differently and value things differently. They are VERY family-orriented, while Roman C's are much less.

Basically what I am trying to say is that there are a lot of choices within a religion...some people who consider themselves Catholic for example, choose to only attend mass twice a year, while they should attend more frequently, they are not FORCED to. We are not FORCED to do anything.

RELIGION DOES NOT GIVE PEOPLE FREE THINKING. SOME ARE INTERMIDITED, AND SO ON.

yes, it does... Religion just makes your life more meaningful but we are still allowed to have free thinking. But i am always supporting on religion because i feel that everywhere i go and whatever i do in this life, has something to do with GOD. even if o am going home from school, i say a prayer to keep me safe. If i am taking a test, a say a prayer to let me do well in the test, if i see my friends fighting, i try to let them make up because it is the good thing to do... any little good thing that we do is a direct equal to Go because God is everything good.

For example, I am working on a debate for speech class about why euthanasia is wrong, and I am not allowed to use any religious arguements; I am having no trouble with it because although I do not believe in euthanasia for religious reasons, there are SO many other arguements against it.

Why can't I use my morals n ethical views that are based around my religion (Christianity) when this whole country was founded upon the same morals n ethical views from the same religion as I?

I so agree with you soldierboy15.. Smile I mean, why cant we use morals and ethics and religious ideas when in fact, whether you all like it or not, EVERYTHING around us has SOMETHING to do with religion. From Iraq, to that Belsan school siege, to everwhere, we are SO surrounded by religion and morals, you just fail to understand it because many people seem to think it is not worth it
