The REAL Act or Responsible Education About Life Act is a bill that will provide federal money to states to develop a responsible approach to sex education in the schools that includes information about both abstinence and contraception, from both a values and public health prospective.

I just recently got back from Washington DC where I was in a training to become an advocate for Comprehensive Sexuality Education. I feel that one reason there are so many teenage mothers, and teens with STI's is that they didn't get the proper sexual education. I feel that programs that only teach about saying no to sex don't teach about safe sex mechinism that are crucial. Even if you abstain from sex now when you do either A. get married or B. have sex, what kind of information about sex do you understand?

We've got to embrace a realistic, comprehensive approach that includes information about abstience and condoms, becuase condoms can help prevent sexually transmitted diseases, especially HIV/AIDS.

Many of you think that condoms don't protect against anything and that they don't do any good. Well you are wrong!
Condoms are very effective...the Bush Administration just doesn't want you to know about it!

Abstienice of course is the only 100% way to never get pregnant and have a lower risk of getting HIV/AIDS. I have chosen to have sex. And I am proud of my choice. I am proud becuase I protect myself, I empower myself to carry a condom where ever I go. I empower myself to know and understand sex. I am not afraid of it.

That is why I am an advocate for Comprehensive Sexuality Education, Advocates for Youth, a non-profit organization wants to encourage young people like ourselves to go out and lobby for the REAL Act, to lobby in our schools for comprehensive sexuality education.

Abstience only programs have been proven to be not as effective as comprehensive sexual education. I had comprehensive sexual education and I'm not pregnant, I'm not rolling in STD's. I waited until I was ready to have sex, comprehensive sexuality education taught me how to make my own choices for my own self and taught me that if I am going to have sex...use a condom!

Support the REAL Act, go to Advocates For Youth
And get in the know!

abstinence is the only way to prevent an unwanted pregnancy with 100% cretainty, and one should always wait to have sex, but if one can't wait, then one should be aware of contraceptives, and the only way for many kids to learn about them is through their school's sex ed program. thus, schools should not have abstinence-only programs--i agree with the REAL act.

Please save this for me. I'll come back for you, love, I promise to.--Ludo

I have decided to wait until marriage to have sex. But I know not everyone has nor not everyone will and nor should they have to. If the kids who are going to have sex anyways know about protection, there will be less pregnancies and less STDs, no question about it.

My school has an abstinence-only program and there were at least 6 girls that I know of in the graduating class last year who were pregnant. Obviously, abstinence-only programs are not keeping them from having sex so we should teach about contraceptives like condoms and the Pill as well.
