I don't understand why the voting age is 18. I personally feel like people are more educated and more mature around 16. Plus, we learn about politics and the structure of the government in school, so I bet 16 year old students are more educated than half of America! Plus, if you're a teen with a job, part of your salary is taken out for taxes. I think we should really re-evaluate the age people should be able to vote because teens are being taxed but can't vote- this is UNCONSTITUTIONAL!

Also, if you think about it: There are many teens who commit crimes and are tried as an adult, yet these teens do not the any rights as an adult.

I would like the voting age to be 16 as well. But then im sure you'll have your percentage of people who will just vote because they can not beause they actually care about whats going to happen, I honestly don't think that it will change or at least not any time soon. I know I would register in a heartbeat if it were 16.

The voting age was lowered to 18 during the conflict in Vietnam due to protests from young adults. The argument was that if you could be drafted and forced into combat, you should be able to vote. This topic has been posted before, by the way, and I'm stickin with what I said last time; the draft is 18, the presidential term is 4 years, 18-4= 14, so the president that will have the power to send you to your death is being signed in when you're 14, when you can't vote. Now, does that seem right to you? I would at least want to choose who sends me to my death.

Thank the good Republican Administration for their $2 trillion tax increase they passed on to us -- the young people in the form of payroll taxes -- with the passing of that huge socialist Medicare prescription drug benefit.
Not to mention the debt and unpaid loans that are increasing consumers' burden each year.
We're paying for this stuff now, but just not as bad as it will be later on.
Pretty soon I hope, all the money in the world will be worthless.
That's what happens when you print too much or don't have the currency backed by gold or silver.

no representation without taxation perhaps?
mebbe instead of changing the age, they should just say, when you get a job and pay taxes, you can vote

No, i think the voting age should be 16. Plus, a lot of kids can drive at 16, so why not be able tovote?

To be honest, I don't really want my friend's five-year-old sister voting. Love her to death and all, but a vote for Spongebob Squarepants is like a vote for Bush. Because, from what I understood, you want everyone to be able to vote.

Ok, so what i heard was right about the voting age. Plus, since so much in our life is determined by the government, such as politics concerning schools, etc., I think that people should be able to vote at a younger age....whatever. Everyone is entitled to their opinions... what do you think?

quote: Also, maybe someone can explain the history of how the voting age became 18 - i heard it was from Vietnamm...?
Before they changed it, the voting age was 21. The 18-20 crowd was getting pissed off because they were being sent to Vietnam, but they couldn't vote and have a say in it. You aren't helping your own argument. If you don't know something like that, you shouldn't be allowed to vote.
