I attended the Texas Republican Party convention this weekend and was honored to have met Rep. Ron Paul, the congressman from the 14th district (near Houston), who has voted constantly with the US Constitution.

You can research him yourselves, but I want to get a discussion going on this great man. He is to the grassroots, free-market Constitutional Republicans now as Ronald Reagan was to the conservatives back then.

Paul actually ran against Reagan as a Libertarian in 1988, but came to his senses and (again) ran for Congress.

I'll have photos of him up online later, but I'm the official "student coordinator" of the Ron Paul-inspired Republican Liberty Caucus.

This man is by far what our US government would look like circa 1700s.

Oh, and if the People start making a concerted effort to really get him to run, Paul will run for the US Senate in 2006. It's expected that Kay Bailey Hutchinson will retire and come and run for governor in that year.

Hope so.

"Ron Paul is what Ronald Reagan was in the 80s and Barry Goldwater was in the 60s." -Is that why I have never heard of him till now?

It's sad that the only man in Congress with principle and conviction doesn't get much publicity on here...a cryin' shame.

Ron Paul is what Ronald Reagan was in the 80s and Barry Goldwater was in the 60s.

On Ron Paul's page he says, "before every vote I take, I ask if the legislation under consideration is constitutional. Of course, it virtually never is. That's why they call me, "Dr. No." I will not support any bill that violates the Constitution."

Thisis exactly what we need. So many people do not bother to keep up with what bills are being passed; all of the bills that are trying to take away our liberties and our rights. It's good to know that there are a few people governmental people left that actually care about the constitution still. There are plenty that will say that they do care, but there are plenty of bills right now that would take away our rights and I personally do not want that to happen. Frown
