Bill Clinton: folks tend to love him or hate him. Yet across poltical lines, most of us acknowledge his intellgence and charisma. Yesterday I went to a San Francisco bookstore (where Clinton was making a stop on his book tour) to see the former president in the flesh. As I waited in the crowd, however, I realized that most of the hype (at least that which I could hear) sorrounding the book and its author centered not on Clinton's political accomplishments and shortcomings, but on his role in the Monica Lewinsky sex scandal. In this age of media scrutinty, it seems that Clinton's "private" transgressions often overshadow his public accomplishments. But this media scrutinty raises some important questions. How much do we hold public figures accountable for their "private" lives? Should the personal become the political?

"red - are you SERIOUSLY getting on Clinton about the recession? the economy can NOT be controlled by a single person, everyone wants a scapegoat whether its Bush or Clinton. and McVeigh probably wouldn't have been caught if the government had the right to randomly check his email account. There are plenty of american terrorists, and they're harder to catch because there's no easy scapegoat (a la Iraq) to blame and bomb the hell out of. bush isn't a saint, and clinton isn't the antichrist. get over it."
Clinton's spending policies is what did us in for the recession. He cannot control the economy but his policies can which he controls. Im not sure what your McVeigh comment is about.. i have a sneaky suspicion that it has somthing to do with the Patriot Act. Bush is a saint literally because he is a Christian but he is human which means he does make mistakes but none to have a fit over. Clinton on the other hand should have been jailed for his crimes.
"preadinet? sounds...french."
i meant president. what do you have against the French?

Interesting. You say Cliton has provided a shamefull image for America, yet did people ever do this to models of clinton? I think not. Bush has provided a worse image for America. Because of him, hate goes high when many people think of America.

I don't think Clinton was a bad politician. I mean, he wasn't the best this country's seen, but he didn't totally screw up the country, and kept things pretty stable. The Lewinsky scandal really DID overshadow everything else, which is pretty sad - just shows, though, that sex sells. I don't think it brought America down seriously in world opinion, I think they all just laughed and kept in mind that America's still a superpower.

The president stands as a symbol of our country, his indiscretions mar our country's apperence.
Through his actions President Clinton has shamed our country and other country's will use him as an example of the rest of America's population.
Our current/future presidents need to realize the affect they have on the rest of the worlds opinion,
