even though we can write letters to our congresspeople how much do you think they get read. most of the time you will just meet with an aid to the person and then if youre lucky you will get to see them. most of the time they are just briefed on things. how much of the bills do you think they acctually read? they get the cliff notes of it. they only notice the issues when their on the capitols steps. what do you think?

I hate to say it but we have never truly lived under a democracy in this present day and time. Don't get me wrong yes we have strong democratic-values and beliefs but that's where it ends, today I would say we live under more of a Republic-Democracy instead of a true firm Democracy. We elect our officials yes but do we care enough now to petition the Gov't. instead of just sitting back and taking all of the fallout that our Gov't issues. If I'm correct and I am, when the founding fathers wrote the United States Constitution they Specifically stated in plain english "If the old goverment becomes to corrupt and can't represent its citizens in true form of fashion throw it out and create a new one

if we keep writing letters to congressmen about issues we feel strongly about, we're not going to get anywhere. there are too many individual people sending too many letters trying to make themselves look like a good citizen. if you really want to make a statement, get a big group of friends together, and find one who has a relation who works in the state or national government. let that person know about the issue and make sure they tell people in their government work. eventually, it can work its way up pretty high. and, if you really care, dont EVER drop the issue. keep bugging. thats the only way you're gonna get what you want. bug people until they are tired of hearing about it and decide to do something about it so you'll shut up.
i say all these things and give advice, and do i follow it myself? no. see, here's an example of just another normal person trying to make themselves look like a good citizen.

Well I don't think we really have much say alone. But if we were to group up on something together and take a stand our voices are more likely to be heard. But when we write letters to congress it gets read by someone else first so congress might never even see it.

Even though our voice may not be as powerful as it should, we cannot give up. If you truely care about an issue, you must allow your voice to be heard - however that may be.

Letters to congress people are usually counted as a yes or a no, but it is no way near the direct effect of voting. We have very very little power. There aren't even any organisations that represent us in the government. I think that there should be someone from our age group making some decisions. Why can't we have an elected official? If we can't vote, at least give us something. Roll Eyes

america has lost sight of its foundation THE PEOPLE we can vote for leaders but its not the people vote that counts any how the popular vote is a joke.its a few select people who are in the electorial college that actually matter.im not saying dont vote.i think if you dont then u dont have any right to whine when things go wrong.but this system was put in place because the poorest of farmers in the original 13 states was uninformed.this isnt true anymore people are informed thanks to the news and the media(no matter how biased it is).the letters u send to congress men are ignored i mean they arent signed by him and are more than likely just a fill in the blank copy used for all problems u could write about. the only way to be heard is to get many people speaking the same thing.with protests petitions and waves of letters.an individual is nothing in america.
