Well I don't see how Buddhism relates to economics but I certainly believe that our need to consume is outrageous. When you really think about everything you use and then throw away it grows to staggering numbers. How many of you buy an outfit and where it maybe 3 times and never where it again? How often do you just throw things away without considering possible reuse? We're a very very wasteful society. Ooh eco footprints. We were just studying that in my envir sci class. In order for everyone in the world to live as they are currently living we will need 1.5 earths. (If everyone lived like the average american we would need 4 earths). This is why we need to expand to space because people are generally too stupid to understand the concept of sustainability.
