Question:
Sure, it seems too early to be talking (or even thinking) about the 2008 elections, but there's only 1,448 days until Election Day 2008, and they may very well go by in a snap. Gallup recently conducted two polls, one for the Democrats and one for the Republicans, as to who within their party they were looking to back in '08. Both polls were conducted in an open-ended question form, where those being polled could say any name they wanted. I thought I'd bring a version of those poll to YN.

Here are the Democrats who received at least 1%, in order of most popular to least: Hillary Clinton: 25%; John Kerry: 13%; John Edwards: 7%; Bill Clinton: 3%; Barak Obama: 3%; Al Gore: 2%.

Other candidates got a combined 9%, and 36% gave no opinion at this early date. Other names that have been circulating around the news but did not get mentioned by 1% of the people include Tom Vilsack and Evan Bayh. Kerry hinted at a recent press conference that he may be considering running again. Obviously, Clinton can't run again, so I'll leave him out of the YN poll and put Obama in his place when listing the top four candidates.

On a final note, if you're a Republican voting on this poll, please vote for which of the candidates you think would honestly make the best President rather than which you think the GOP could most easily defeat.

Choices:
Hillary Clinton
John Kerry
John Edwards
Barak Obama

And then, as the books were told, Fina replied: "A can of worms, my dear friend? What has this to do with reason?"
