I have been pondering this idea for a very long time and I'd like some input. My idea is for a taxation system where citizens actually get to choose what their tax dollars go to. A base amount - perhaps, 25% - goes to cover essential, minimal services, such as the military, infrastructure, criminal justice system, and basic government functionality. The rest, each individual can earmark for whatever services they choose on their tax returns. Citizens cannot choose to withhold any to pay less taxes, but they can choose where the money goes. If you support more military funding, you can so choose to earmark more or all of your taxes for that purpose. If you feel that the arts are underfunded, you can choose to allocate a portion or all of your remaining tax dollars to that purpose instead. The idea is to use fairly broad categories, so as to avoid cutting specific programs.
I think such a system, aside from giving citizens more control over how their tax money is spent, will also keep government agencies on their toes. Deadweight agencies which do not deliver or are obsolete will be eliminated, and tax money will be better spent. I feel it will bring a semblance of sanity over our government; at least more than there is under the current system.
I'm curious what others think about this idea. Thanks for your input!

although i like your idea in theory, some agencies, particulalry undercover agencies who dont get much attention for safety reasons and other reasons might not get funded because people dont know what they are. but i like your idea for hte most part. is thios being considered or is it your original idea?

It sounds great, but it wouldn't work just like the conept of communism because the government would continuely have to continually change the amount of spending on programs. Thus, utter chaos. Our community barely works through consistency, without it, it fails.
