I just couldn't find an open forum on this so I decided to start my own. I have heard alot about socialized medicine whereas alot of people truly feel like it could work here in the states and others well not so much.
Socialized Medicine is essentially giving free health care to the citizens of a country. You will still have to pay taxes in order to get this healthcare, but even if you don't work you are still able to recieve this healthcare. This system will eventually force you to have to pay for others healthcare and not be able to privatize yours. With Socialized Medicine you can't go to private insurance companies and get your own insurance just in case the "free" one is all used up. The matter of the fact is the people who will benefit the most from this system is the poor.
Another problem with this system is doctors and nurses being completely overworked. People have to wait for hours to see a doctor (should you really be able to complain if it's free) and even then it's so impersonal. A doctor who has to rush through 20 0r 30 people in a matter of minutes will not take as mush time to bond with their patient, because of time restrictions. Also their salary would be extremely low and why go through all the trouble of going through medical school to just live on $40,000 a year?
Not only will socialized medicine lead to personal problems, but economic problems as well. When you have a commidity that everyone needs and wants what happens when that commodity is free? You have a high demand and a low supply and that screws with economics. It's hard to pay for new medical equipment and not as meany people are turning out for medical school.
Most people like to throw in ethics with it also. Is it right for someone to work hard all their life to pay for someone else's medical care? Yeah I'm sure everyone is all for helping their neighbor, but what happens when you are forced to help? You no longer have that desire and you feel used. Why should I have to take care of somebody else's responsibilities?Egalitarianism will never work if some people are just willing to work a hell of a lot harder to get what they need and want. You should have to take care of your own responsibilities and that includes personal expenses.
Socialized Medicine can never work in a country like ours. We have over 200 million people in this country and our deficit is already high enough without trying to add more. I would like to see someone come up with new ideas to try and make this work, but I doubt it.
