The Mid-term elections are almost here! One of the most important midterm elections in awhile. What will happen? Democrats take control? Republicans remain in power?

WHATS GOING TO HAPPEN?

Well, even if I was wrong about everything else, I called all the gubernatorial races correctly. I guess I'll take my props now.

Actually yes. He said he'd love to see Roe v. Wade overturned.

Not to my knowledge. The only topic that anyone really cares about in the upcoming election is the economy and jobs. Frankly, I don't see why we would re-elect someone who hasn't gotten us anywhere in the past four years...

I think, if I leaned the other way politically, I would cross party lines to vote for someone new...but that's just me...

I've actually been kinda curious about what happened with the Michigan gubernatorial race. For a long while it looked as though Granholm were in real trouble; that little "every state has been gaining jobs except Michigan" fact was really damning. Then, all at once, the polls swung back her way to the point that it's no longer even really a contested race. Did DeVos do something stupid like take a firm stance on abortion?

I predict that they are going to re-elect Michigan's governor.

The one who really hasn't accomplished much in her last four years, except lead the state to rank worst in unemployment. The economy is really on the forefront of everyone's minds right now, and she hasn't done anything. Clearly, the other candidate would do a better job, even if all he does is bring some fresh ideas to the table.

It would make absolutely no sense to vote for the incumbent, and that my friends, is why she is going to be re-elected.

(I don't know if that is really what is meant by mid-term elections, but that's what is going on in my state...)

You know what would really be amazing?

If all these senators in close races realize that their constituents are fed up with it all, and just MAYBE go back to representing the populace instead of a right wing agenda or a left wing agenda. I bet if I were to run for senate in Texas, I would win just by appealing to voters through issues that they care about rather than promoting an agenda. The election should tell the republicans (if they manage to keep control) that they are a bunch of fuck ups and they need to turn their act around quick, otherwise they wont have ANY support in 08 and Hillary Clinton will be president... how is that for motivation? :P

In the Senate, I agree with what Aguagon said except that Webb will beat Allen in VA.

Here's exactly how it will go down:

Governors: Dems +6, GOP -6
Challenger Martin O'Malley (D) will defeat incumbent Governor Robert Ehrlich (R) in Maryland. Deval Patrick will become the new governor of Massachusetts when he defeats Kerry Healey (replacing Mitt Romney), throwing the state back to the Dems. The Dems will experience similar gains through open seats in Colorado (Bill Ritter over Bob Beauprez), Arkansas (Mike Beebe over Asa Hutchinson), and Ohio (Ted Strickland over Kenneth Blackwell). Last but not least, Eliot Spitzer will take New York by storm, getting elected over John Faso with over 70% of the votes. Over in Minnesota, incumbent Republican Governor Tim Pawlenty will hold onto his seat by a hair. In every other state, the incumbent governor will win or a governor of the same party as the previous governor will be elected.
Total: 28 Democratic Governors and 22 Republican Governors

Senate: Dems +3, GOP -4, Ind. +1
Challenger Bob Casey (D) will run incumbent Rick Santorum (R) right out of the park in Pennsylvania. Challenger Sherrod Brown (D) will do the same to incumbent Mike DeWine (R) in Ohio (the national Republicans have already pulled their funding from this face and declared it a lost cause). Incumbent Conrad Burns (R-MT) will experience a narrower but still substantial loss when he is defeated by Democratic challenger Jon Tester. The fourth Republican loss will be in Rhode Island, where incumbent Lincoln Chafee (R) will be shoved out the door by challenger Sheldon Whitehouse (D). The Independent gain will come from Joe Lieberman (I-CT) replacing...himself, after he defeats Democratic challenger Ned Lamont. There's a Republican in the Connecticut race too, but if the media doesn't care, why should I?

There's a few other very hot races worth mentioning: in Tennessee, Bob Corker (R) and Harold Ford, Jr. (D) are vying for an open seat; it is my belief Corker will take it by the narrowest of margins. There are three senatorial incumbents in the midterm election who will survive by the skin of their teeth: Jim Talent (R-MO), Robert Menendez (D-NJ), and George Allen (R-VA).
Total: 51 Republican Senators, 47 Democratic Senators, and 2 Independent Senators

House: Dems +17, GOP -16, Ind. -1
No, I'm not going to go through this race by race...I don't have the time to write it and you don't have the patience to read it. Suffice to say that Arizona's 8th district will finally be represented by a Democrat. That's good enough for me.
Total: 219 Democratic Representatives and 216 Republican Representatives

So, there's my predictions. Not that I've given the midterms a lot of thought, or anything.

I get the feeling that the democrats are going to sweep the elections in the majority of states I think that the majority of the people are sick of republicans screwing everything up and are ready to give the dems a shot at screwing everything up again
