Alot of people say Bush has entered us into an illegal war. So asks these people to explain why.

The constitution makes the President the Commander in Chief of our armed services.

The constitution gives Congress the pwoer to declare war, but all this means is Congress can levy money for war.

Making the world safer...well, we could always start out in our own cities.

And 9/11 would definitely count as an attack upon the US. However, we still had no right to attack Afghanistan and Iraq because there was no proof that the terrorists of 9/11 came from either country. For all we know, they came from northern India.

The planning or 9/11 was done by Al Queda. They operated in Afghanistan. So we had proof for Afghanistan. This war is not about American revenge, but making the world safer, so we had proof for Iraq (Ask israel and Iran, I am sure they are happy Saddam is not in power anymore.)

The War Powers Act neither condones nor approves this. So, either this kind of thing is illigal or not. We need to decide, somehow, I guess.

I fear marine's got you there, Political. Section 2 (c): " The constitutional powers of the President as Commander-in-Chief to introduce United States Armed Forces into hostilities...are exercised only pursuant to (1) a declaration of war, (2) specific statutory authorization, or (3) a national emergency created by attack upon the United States, its territories or possessions, or its armed forces."

And 9/11 would definitely count as an attack upon the US. However, we still had no right to attack Afghanistan and Iraq because there was no proof that the terrorists of 9/11 came from either country. For all we know, they came from northern India.

I highly doubt your history book said those things because they are wrong. Google the actual text of the Act. I swear, I have to hold the hands of you fools trough everything.

2000: Electorial Pop vote
George W. Bush: 271 50,456,002
Albert A. Gore: 266 50,999,897
Ralph Nader: 0 2,882,955

2004: Electorial Pop vote
George W. Bush: 286 59,668,261
John F. Kerry: 252 56,172,264

Unfortunatly, these are the results of the past 2 presidential elections. Since Bush won twice (really once), he is the commander in chief and has power over the military. People voted him into office TWICE. THIS IS WHAT THEY WANTED.

Allright.

So, since he is the Commander in Chief and obviously some sort of higher entity than the rest of us, he is entitled to bomb any country that he wishes to? Since he has power of the military...

Read th Wars Power Act, you are completley wrong. he must ntoify Congress within 48 hours of when he feels hostilities have occured that warrant congressional approval. Then the troops can stay for 60, or if congress approves it, 90 days.

A bunch of Congressman tried to bring test the War Powers Act before the Supreme Court in the first gulf war and the supreme court denied to hear it. That shows the law of the land takes it very seriously.

According to the War Powers Act, which was instarted after the Vietnam Conflict, the president has to inform congress of what he's planning, then wait 48 hours before he goes for it. Then, the troops can only stay for 90 days unless congress approves the action and declares war. Basically, it limited his millitary control and it's supposed to be working really well.

Here's where it gets tricky:
Bush keeps the guys there for 90 days, and then brings them back for a month or so, and then sends them back for 90 more days. The War Powers Act neither condones nor approves this. So, either this kind of thing is illigal or not. We need to decide, somehow, I guess.

I really don't think this should be happening, but to congress, what do I know?
I think the act meant that you can be there for 90 days, no more than that.

But yeah, what do you guys think?
