On the other side of the coin, he's been shady about privacy issues. (Excluding curbs on surveillance powers, etc.) It seems he hasn't been the biggest supporter of the Fourth Amendment, which would only back his pro-life stance even more. (Since Roe v. Wade was held up only because abortion fell under the right to privacy.)

I never once believed he was a "middle of the road" conservative. Although I hadn't heard he was pro-gay. Of course, all I read was the article in the Quad City Times...

I still don't think it'll take things in a very positive direction (for liberals) since he's so conservative.

Well, filibustering is politically dangerous. When I'd first found out about Alito, I read that they were considering filibustering. They may have went back and decided it wasn't a good idea.

I have some hope. I just really pray that this doesn't take things in a very conservative direction.

I heard just the opposite, that a filibuster was unlikely, I personally feel he will get in, i "hear" he has a very impressive resume'.

I'm not extremely politically informed but I do know some stuff. Alito is (supposedly) a super-conservative. In my opinion, not something we need right now (we being non-conservative-thinkers) especially since the government is taking a big turn to the conservative anyway. It might mean a few steps back when it comes to a lot of different rights for minorities (not just racial minorities).
