I kept seeing the same posts, like "Gay Marriage" and "Gayness is sick" and "How can you even think of dissin on Bush" and "Abortion" etc. etc. etc. But this one is actually quite controversial, but not talked about a whole lot. I'll give my opinion a little later after some more posts have been put on, but what are your views on Columbus Day?

This was the bill that I suggested in my Debate class when we were doing our "student congress" session (it called for abolishing/changing Columbus Day) and the neg. side had a good point... the fed. government recognizes Christmas as a fed. holiday, which I would say crosses that line, but there's a good point that many American's celebrate it, but... I still think Columbus should be celebrated, especially on a national level, after all he did...

It then all goes back to separation of church/synogogue/mosque/all religions and state.

My opinion on this whole subject is that since Columbus might have been involved in the slave trade and that he committed genocide to the natives of this land and because he never set foot in America and because he wasn't the first to come to the Americas that it should not be celebrated as a FEDERAL holiday. (It's conflicting though because Christmas is a federal holiday...) Long story short, I think we should have an Americas Discovery Day, but not a day honoring one man (Columbus)...

I agree, since Roentgen discovered radation by accident and really wasn't looking for it anyway, we should call him a murder and devil for all the pain that nuclear weapons and industrial radiation has caused humanity.

I have to say that I agree. Quite a few people discovered it appart from Columbus. Having said that, he did do what he believed, and in that much I respect him.
