One of my friend's boyfriend beat her up. He was mad at her and drove out to a field. He gave her two black eyes, fractured her nose, gave 7 huge black and blue bruises, and ran over her ankle with is car. The police were called and she didn't tell them truth right off. Her boyfriend showed up and said taht my friend had gone crazy and did all her injuries to herself and he tried to stop her. She just mumbled a coulple of things and went to the hospital. Later the next day she went to the police department and wanted to get a restraining order against her ex boyfriend. The police said that she would need TWO cases of abuse in order to get one. Well she only has ONE! That is just plain stupid! So in order for her to get her restraining order she must get beat up AGAIN! The system needs to change!

She should've talked to an attorney to begin with. Anyhow, with her being so elusive to police, that probably led them to believe it was an account of stalking. If that's the case, there would have to be two accounts to get a restraining order, or a PPO - Personal Protection Order. But since it isn't, and they were/are in a relationship, she can file a Domestic Relation PPO. To get one, she has to go to a Prosecuting Attorney and state her case. Michigan laws I assumed from your YN profile your friend lives in Michigan, too. Good luck. Hope that helped.

Well, given the severity of the situation, there might be exceptions. She should talk to an attorney.
