With the recent cultural explosion of Che Guevara as a poster child and fashion chic what do we really know about him. An expert in guerrilla warfare and an avid supporter of a socialist society; do you support his ideals or denounce them?
quote:That seems like a bit of a generalization at this point. You haven't been there for all that long.
Agreed. But, from the people I knew and met and such. Dunno how it is in the easter (as in, the area near Vladivostok) is. I'm gonna return back there in a couple of weeks.
quote:I'd have to agree with you in some part there. Russia's transition out of communism was terrible, mostly because the Soviet government just rotted from the inside and there were no social institutions to take over the vaccuum. Communism is not a solution though, just a temporary cure. Capitalism and democratic mindset need to be built up over time so the proper social ideals can develop.
It can be temporary, yeah. But, I think they need some sort of stable financial institution (in this case it would be oil) and then they can make all major changes. And, the people don't seem to be very used to this new government, I noticed. I met even cases where the younger generation had their parents place communism on their heads, it was kind of scary...
"Regardless, I have always, and will always, succeed."
quote: I mean citizens, sorry for the mixup. Citizens who want communism. They're the nicer ones for some reason.

quote: I think it's for their better, though. Communism may not suit the US, but I think it suits Russia. Hell, Moscow is so ****ed up I think nearly any change would be good... they're probably use the oil to rise up economically again.

"Do you realize that fluoridation is the most monstrously conceived and dangerous communist plot we have ever had to face?"
quote:You have to tell me more about this. Who exactly are these communists? Government officials, party workers, general citizens, what?

quote: Well, they're not so much evil as Anti-American.
Heh, no, xenophobic. Trust me. But yeah, American makes it worse, but can't say it't not mutual.
I believe, having lived in Russia, that communism will come back there in one way or the other, but I doubt Putin will call it communism. He's doing some things that are sort of commie.
I think it's for their better, though. Communism may not suit the US, but I think it suits Russia. Hell, Moscow is so ****ed up I think nearly any change would be good... they're probably use the oil to rise up economically again.

quote: 'Meh, I didin't say living in their government was good, I was referring to the fact that commies are seen in the US as evil. Go to Russia and the commies are the ones who will help you out form xenophobic attackers.
Well, they're not so much evil as Anti-American. You have to tell me more about this. Who exactly are these communists? Government officials, party workers, general citizens, what?
For the record though, I do acknowladge that capitalism has run amok and almost collapsed in Russia. This is due to poor national policy and the aftermath of the fall of the USSR though, not an inherent flaw in capitalism.
Russia should have followed the Chinese model. Still call yourself communist, but have a captialistic ecnonomy. Democracy will come in time.
"Do you realize that fluoridation is the most monstrously conceived and dangerous communist plot we have ever had to face?"
quote: This is why I told you not to go there. The commies still want to control your life. The fact that they provide law and order is a side-effect. This does not make socialism good.

It matters when you're making a hero out of the man.
"Do you realize that fluoridation is the most monstrously conceived and dangerous communist plot we have ever had to face?"
One of your mistakes in your assumptions, is that, well, they're assumptions, and bad ones at that. Had you known what happened to me, and how the commies are now the good guys in Russia, then you'd have a right to say what you just did. The commies are the ones who are saving the foreigners from the hate of the rest. And that's something you have no say in compared to me, I lived in it.

Why don't you leave Texas and go abroad? Learn.

Che represented one of the most butcherous regimes in world history, and one of the most murderous ideologies known to man.
Communism is not good, and unfortunately, there are many of you who see Che as nothing more than a fad, rather than what he was: a anti-individualistic collective murderer.
He personally saw to it that dissidents were killed, like his ideological idol, Fidel Castro.
If you can "respect" him for that, then you people deserve the same death he received, which was a bullet to the head.
