That's right, trillion. With a "T." As reported here, while you were too busy worried about the official pie of Florida or the growing threat of Mexican terrorists, lawmakers passed a bill to allow the US to sink to $9 trillion in debt. "The statutory debt limit has risen by more than $3 trillion since Bush took office," it says. Another interesting site- the debt is approximately $28,151.73 per US citizen. But look, a $300 tax cut! So, is it worth it?

Nice reference Well, we TRIED to partially privatize the plan, but Congress shot it down.

Also it's projected that by 2010 or so there will be a 3-1 ratio for geezers to workers so either the retirement age needs to go up or I'll need to get more jobs, or we can just hunt down old people

I'd rather my social security taxes go to pay off the budget deficit than go to some vapor fund I'll never see, while the government takes loans from China. Seriously, what the hell. Social Security takes up something near half our national budget, and we're running huge deficits. I'll plan for my own goddamn reitirement, just make sure the country isn't bankrupt by the time I get there. Because Social Security won't mean a damn thing if our currency eventually bottoms out and our government's budget collapses.
