I didn't see anyone say anything about it, so I'll mention it.

Is, in a legal sense, what Foley did wrong?
Is 'someone' getting a little too excited about Foley?

What about Stubbs? It's not just the Republicans anymore.

Foley resigned. He wasn't kicked out.

I thought the age of consent was 18 all over the US.

IIRC the Democrat, Stubbs, who nailed his underage page got kudos from his fellow Democrats and multiple successive terms. The Republican who *DIDN'T* even get to nail an underage page got kicked out of Congress and is now under Federal investigation.

Smells like more double-standards here, especially be the liberal media.

But I don't even know if it's illegal. Here in NJ, the age of consent is 16. It may well be less in Florida. So, aside from being a double-standard, it's not completely clear if what scumbag Foley did was even illegal.

Unfortunately.

Liberals prefer equality - all people should be equally poor, unsafe and badly-educated.

I also forgot to mention that a great many Republicans knew about his emails and didn't call him on it. Heck, the committee that manages the page program is composed of one Democrat and a bunch of Republicans, and all the Republicans on that committee knew about what Foley was doing.

And then they blame the Democrats for not getting rid of the page program. Oh the irony...

Actually, from what I understand, Foley didnt really hide his sexuality.... well he did to soem extent, but it was an "open secret" on capitol hill. I've read that although he sometimes brought female dates to fundraisers and such, at private parties he was accompanied by his longterm boyfriend. Which raises another issue, that of him totally cheating on his partner. But i guess the isse of faithfullness has been rather dwarfed in comparison to the whole underage thing, hasn't it?

I don't know a whole lot about this, but I would assume that most people would frown upon a Congressman writing sexually explicit messages to teenagers. As far as I know, the pages he wrote to were under 18, so that falls under sexual harassment, even if the kids didn't mind (which I find odd anyways).

However, the big issue at hand is how Foley hid his homosexuality and effectively lied to everyone about who he was. I'm not really sure why everyone's making a big fuss about that, but, hey, that's American politics for you. Find any little thing wrong with someone's personal life and air it for everyone to see. The Republicans did it with Clinton, and now the Democrats are returning the favor. I won't comment on whether that's justified or not, but that is what's happening.
