quote: And why are you comparing homosexuals to animals?
I was not saying that homosexuals are cats. That's a strange thing to say and has nothing to do with whether the government can say who can and can't get married. I was trying to proove the point that people cannot marry whoever they want. They can be together, live together, have children (or adopt...). But marriage is more than living together and loving eachother. That's why brothers cannot legally marry their sisters, why men can't have five wives, why 14 year olds who think they're in love can't get married.

I agree that the government needs to get out of our daily lives, and I admit that conservatives don't have a completely clear conscious when it comes to getting out of daily life, but those of you who are gay or support gay rights and who are liberal ought to understand that this is largely of your own doing. Blame yourselves.
Liberals allowed government to get so big and so involved in our personal affairs, to the point that it feels it can micromanage us. You've gotten most Americans to believe that, if there's anything that we don't like or ails us, we must run to nanny government to solve our problems. Remember this, and remember this always. You pushed through almost four decades of gun control, and now you're surprised that the two entire generations think "reasonable regulation" of civil liberties is acceptable.
Yes, again, it is true that many "conservatives" are not innocent of this either. This is the real reason why I am pro-choice and accepting of civil unions - not exactly "conservative" positions. Just like I don't want government telling me whether I can own a gun or what kind, I don't want it telling me who I can marry or what my girlfriend can do with her body. I think a lot of conservatives started out libertarian but lost sight of that ideal.
Next time you support bigger government, remember that you are also empowering it to control our lives more and more. Government is useful, to a degree, but generally, the smaller, the better.

quote: its job is to make a good economy
Actually this is the PEOPLE's responsibility. The Governments job in the economy is to act as very loose moderator to make sure no laws are broken or abuses occuring. But back on topic. It really isn't the Government's to tell who people can and can't marry. As far as the GOVERNMENT is concerned, marriage is simply a sharing of legal rights and taxable incomes. I don't see a real solid reason to deny people that. As for the sanctity of marriage, that is a cultural and religous issue. Something the Government should stay as far away from as possible. The church wants a say, fine. Just don't define LEGAL marriage by RELIGOUS standards.

the government has no right to tell you who u can and cant marry. They cant do that! its not right! If the government makes gay marriage illegal, might as well make it illegal for black couples to get married and other minorities. Im christian myself and gay people dont bother me at all. (( I'll tolerate gay people up to the point til they start hitting on me)) I know a few christian people who are against gay marriage purely cause its against their religion which is fine. But, they arent gay so why would they care if a gay couple marries? i mean, no one has the right whether to tell you who u can and cant marry. NO ONE! Government official or not... i think thats just abusing their powers.... but oh well.. whatever. I just want to say one thing. in the early 1900's no one ever thoght that women would have the right to vote. Look today. Anyone can vote from age 18 and up. One day, im not sure when... but one day gay marriage will happen. In 100 days or 100 years... it dosent matter... it will happen.
