Colour me curious, but I've been wondering something lately, as I realised what I would do in this situation.

You're dictator. You can do anything you want without fearing repercussions, fear at all. What would be your main accomblishment? What would be your defining acheivement, and how would you go about it? If this differs from your first action, spell that one out, too.

The Shade wants to know.

I like clpos plan for punishment, but I like most of canada and alaska so I say we use a remote part of the canadian yukon, turning it in to a special "idiot preserve" where they can all die out in peace

We would drop them a letter grade every offense until you become an F. Then we stick you in an isolated area (Wyoming, Alaska, Canada) where you can't interact with anyone with higher grades.

Okay, that's a little harsh. Just building on amp's idea.

Wasn't there something about this in the abortion thread? Or in one of those anyway?

But so what would we do if people broke the law?How would we stop it?

I have a new one

Everyone has to carry around a card with their HS GPAs on it. Fs are not allowed to breed, Ds must breed with As (if the As want to) Cs can breed with As or Bs and Bs can breed with C's or As. A;s can breed with any one except Fs

a little forced intelligence increase for America

This thread is to good to let it die... Shade, we never ended up hearing what you'd do? (unless I missed it...)

I like that. I think there are other ways to have certain standards for the whole country to have to meet without the necessity of tests, or ONLY tests.

Questioning Capitalism for all of you that have been involved in this e-fight Big Grin

I think the problem are standarized test in general, mostly because we are not standarized people. People have different mindsets, and I'm not only referring to morality or ideological variations.
Education should evaluate individuals based on their implication, interest, and effort. A continuous evaluation based on writing, critical analisis, and synthesis of learned information has been found to be more productive, more apreciated by students, and a better gauge of learning capacity.

So the problem is America's standardized tests, not standardized tests in general.

Can we all agree on this point and let the thread go back to dictators and whatnot?

Hmm I see. It seems that the problem is that the tests in question are not very good. I was assuming that the standardised tests you take are like the ones I took (I participated in 2 different education systems). My mistake.

And I've seen brilliant people who failed standardized test because that's not they way they think. You know who does good on standardized test? The average person who knows only how to memorize but not how to apply any of their knowlage.

No, but they're the best filter we've got.
Over here, where the tests are non-standardised, schools make up their own tests, teachers mark them and often mark students based on how much they like them. Because the tests are non-standardised, a big crazy incompehensible system is employed by the state authority to try and get the schools gradings turned into some kind of incredibly rough measure of each students academic ability, through a piss-poor process of comparing random school exams.

Ive seen lazy inept people get better end-of-school scores than clever people. Ive seen people of comparable academic capabilities get very different scores because they went to different schools. Ive never met anyone who went through this school system disagree with anything I just said. NO-ONE.

That actually classifies as anarcho-primitivism, which has nothing to with communism. Don't worry, no one expects you to know better.

No. That is not how it would work. Why must you constantly think in black and white? Doing well on a standardized test shows nothing but the fact you have the ability to take a test. Standardized tests are a waste of time and cannot possibly show all a person is capable of.

RaceDriver, some people just don't test well, it doesn't mean they are "dumb-asses." Actually if you have to write papers and have these alternative evaluations instead of just tests, you get a much more complete picture of the person, because it's work over a period of time, not just one day(it also takes longer and is harder to evaluate, so you could say tests are more efficient(sp?) in some ways but do not really represent that persons knowledge as well). I do think for some things obviously you need tests, and it's also a way I guess to keep the whole country or state or school or whatever up to certain standards, but it's not as clear cut as you're putting it. Stop being so fucking close minded and try to think about it before you answer okay?

Read up on communism - if you believe that you'll like communism. Anyway, on what grounds do you think a society can be run if the goverment consists of 80% of the population?
