To YouthNOISE: Congressman Ron Paul's office has responded to a question I had about the Free Trade of the Americas Agreement and the Coalition's harping on me not having enough "evidence" to back up my threads pertaining to the American Union and the like, which, by the way, can be found on the "Your Say in Government" forum. Here is the response: quote:
Joey, FTAA isn't routine legislation. It is known as fast track because trade agreements are not implemented through the House and Senate like most should. It is usually signed unilaterally as a trade agreement through Executive powers. Ron Paul has the phylosophy of our founding fathers that these are "entangling alliances" of managed trade. Others believe because the name implies "free trade" that it would help build economic alliances between countries because it puts all counties under the same rules. In reality it ends up as a division of an international trade body and American businesses should not be limited to, or under any other rules or control, other than what is agreed upon between the two countries involved.
FTAA is like NAFTA in that it usually ends up giving America the dissadvantage because our businesses are highly regulated.
Thanks, Penny
Penny Langford Chief of Staff Congressman Ron Paul
