YN wants to cover the 2008 elections in the YN style –interesting, innovative, engaging, and from the youth perspective. In other words, what would YOU like to see, hear or read about concerning the elections? It's nice to be important but it's more important to be nice.
I agree, I think we would all benefit from learning about the candidate's stance on issues and what they really plan to do. I could care less about what party they are in--politics have become all too much polar, and our generation needs to recognize it. A chart or something like someone mentioned would be sweet!

I want to know which candidate has the prettiest hair and which candidate may have made a racially charged remark when he was fourteen. You know, the stuff the media covers.
But seriously, I like the chart idea, and I like all of Blue's suggestions. And like Quintessence said, the candidates' follow-through is important. For all the candidates that are Congressmen or former Congressmen, YN could post how they voted on certain key pieces of legislation. For all the governors/mayors and former governors/mayors, it'd be nice to get beyond the hype and see what really happened to the state/city's economic development, healthcare, education programs, crime rate, etc.

I would definetly like to know more about the candidates and I do think that a chart would be an awesome idea. I would also like to know who is supporting each candidate because you can tell alot by who is helping them.
I'd not only like to know what the politician's standings on some issues are, I'd also like to know things they've actually done, both in the past and present. Do they fulfill the promises they make?

I think you should talk to each candidate and see their views on teen issues. IT is not all about California, even if the candidates get to run early there. Also have each YN member vote once to see what we think and what the other members of the nation think.

Few things... First off: Get some coverage in California! Canidates get to run here early. Second off: Hold polls to see who everyone thinks is gonna win. Third off: Hold events that help show why somebody thinks someone should win!

I remember doing that for the Bush/Kerry Election. It's a lot harder than it seems, but such a helpful thing.

About that. I was thinking that I know there's a good chance that a candidate is coming to my college, and I know Obama was at Puffin's college.
Assuming that the candidates go to colleges a lot, and seeing that there are college-aged YNers, maybe we should keep eyes open for when a candidate from either party is coming to our college, write our reactions to what they had to say (and write what they had to say as well) while at the college, and send it to YN. By doing this, we could get many different youth opinions without much of a hassle.
I think it is really important that YN covers the elections closely. A few ideas: -sponsor real, live debates in chatroom format about the candidates between NMers -provide election updates once a week i.e. updated polls, candidate trackers--where they have been; what they have said -try to get the Cijo (sp?) reporters to interview candidates/campaigns -have NMers vote to endorse a candidate -advertise YN as a place where youths can debate and discuss the '08 election
