I've been hearing some talk already about the Presidential Election of 2008 and it's really interesting. Apparently the Dems are considering Hillary Clinton. If that happens they say there's a good chance that the Republicans will go with Condoleezza Rice. She's not only female but also African American. To me personally, A black female president would be awesome, but I am really interested in what everyone else thinks. Should there be a female president? Should there ever be a black president period?

There's a lot of people out there who really don't care who ever lives in the white house. Black or white, asian or muslim, rich or poor, woman or man, I just don't care who lives in the white house, I just want them to be the best person for the country.

I'm for Obama. I'm against Hillary not because of her gender. I'm against Hillary because I don't trust her. I'd be happy with a woman President, or any other mix any day. Whether or not I support them is another issue.

This is the United States of America. Our country was based off the principle that everyone is equal. Anybody can be President. Whether or not they deserve the job is another story.

Being a female doesnt make her a potentially good president. Can she withstand the pressures and ultimately make the outlook of US more viable around the world as it is already damaged.

I dont think so.I think mc cain will win.

In the absence of a scepter, you need something to wave around.

Every politician thinks like that. Heck, just ask Barbara Bush. (Two links there, folks.)

i dont see what this has to do with anything, male or female, it makes no difference. We should be talking about the person, not the sex.

but, seeing as how this board relates to hillary, i believe that she would make a terrible president, not based only on the fact that she is a democrat, but on the fact that she is a terrible person. She believes that she is all around better than everyone else, and only she can fix the major world problems because everyone else is stupid.

I have nothing against a female president, but I don't think that we should elect a person just because she's female.

And trust me, people do that. I know a girl (as feminist as they come) and she wants Hilary for president because, I quote, "It would be awesome to have a female president." If she has no merits other than the fact that she's female, she shouldn't be president. But this is the same girl who after Nicolas Sarkozy was elected last spring in the French presidential elections said, "Segoline Royal would have been the economic destruction of France, but it would have been cool for them to have a female president." That sounds great to me!

Come on people, think about the presidential merits, not cultural/racial/gender diversity.

While I do realize that this is a hot topic, I think we must always remember that Hillary Clinton is not running to be the first woman president and Barack Obama is not running to be the first African American president. They are both running on the basis that they believe that they are the most qualified and the best choice for the president of the united states. Therefore, we should not devote time to discussing whether or not America is "ready" to elect a woman or African American president. It makes them illegitimate and insults our intelligence to say that the main issue of the 2008 presidential race is whether or not America is ready for an African American or woman president.

I am all for a women in the White House! But..I do not think that our society is ready to accept a women with that kind of authority. Hilory Clinton, in my opinion, would be a horrid president! I dont think her husband did a good job either.
As far as an African American goes I would also love to see that but again I dont think as a society we are ready.

Then how about we try to get the private companies to take over public housing?

I agree, so that results in it not being a public project so if it doesn't work a govt project when a govt project, housing projects are indeed useless

Going back to the projects, recently a private company purchased several housing projects. They kicked out the dealers, cleaned the place up and now it's an actual home to the people that live there, instead of a crap filled and rat ridden step up from a card board box.

Then how about we try to get the private companies to take over public housing?

Also, try to get the people who LIVE there to become empowered for change. It has worked in the past, and can work in the future.

how many people on welfare actually get jobs? does it actually do shit? no it just supports the belief that some Americans hold that they are entitled to free money. How about housing projects? they sure don't do shit and they tend to be covered in it to, just ask someone who's lived in one. Social Security is such a mess that it's a joke and the list goes on and on. Face it Goverment programs by definition don't work. I don't care what race or gender they are, so long as they're better than the current president. We shouldn't elect a female president solely because she's female.

Now is the time for healing. Our nation needs a mulatto hermaphrodite if we are ever to overcome bipartisanship.

the point of presidency is not the color of one's skin or their gender. the point is to truly meet the needs of people and uphold integrity in all that he/she may do. the color or gender does not automatically make someone more socially conscious or care about humanity. in most cases, by being a part of a minority group one is more likely to be sensitive to discrimination because she/he might confront it everyday. Nonetheless, a black or a female president is not the key. the key is a person who not going to turn their backs on the poor, decrease job opportunities, and eliminate public housing programs and financial aid, support rapid and thoughtless gentrification. let's not get fooled be physical characteristics of the person.
